History
After being founded in 1905 by Hans Wilsdorf in London, the headquarters of Rolex was shifted to Geneva in 1920, so that the brand could cement a position of its own in the watch making world.

Design
Known in the Rolex industry as the ‘only diver’s watch that can be worn with a tuxedo’, the M116613LN-97203 BLACK INDEX Oyster Submarine Date is a sight to behold. It is an iconic diver’s watch that exudes style. Its case is made of Yellow Rolesor- a combination of 904L steel and 18 ct Yellow Gold. The dial used for the model is black in colour.
Its bezel is also entirely in black and is unidirectional in nature. A Cerachrom insert on the bezel prevents scratches. Thus bezel is further provided with a tachymeter scale with the markings and numerals etched out in gold. The bracelet made of 18ct gold, is of the traditional flat oyster three piece link design with the oyster clasp added for comfort and safety. A scratch resistant sapphire glass over the dial protects the watch from accidental damage and increases its durability.

Features
Designed specifically for divers, this Submarine Date has everything that a diver may require while swimming in the depths of the seas and oceans. Its movement is mechanical, perpetual and self-winding. The Chromalight display of the dial has a long lasting blue luminescence.
Seeking inspiration from the Oysters, this watch has a triplock system with a winding crown to provide maximum water resistance. Testing showed that while the timepiece is resistant up to 300 metres, it is also able to survive at depths that are 25 percent deeper. A Parachrom hairspring increases the shock resistance of the watch by ten times its normal capacity. The date feature is also included in this model and is located at the 3 o’clock position. It is enhanced through the Cyclops glass placed over it that magnifies the numbers.

History
In 1953, an era when scuba diving was all the rage, the Rolex Submariner was introduced at the Basel Fair. A popular choice as a commercial diver's watch, it was the first timepiece to be resistant to water at a depth of 100 meters. One of the most iconic collections from Rolex, the Submariner has over the years incorporated various technical modifications while staying true to the quintessential design it came to be known for.

Features
A Submariner flaunts a 40-mm steel case with a screw-down case back. Fitted with a screw-down winding crown, the timepiece is equipped with the Triplock triple waterproofness system that assures water-resistance to a depth of 300 metres. The scratch-resistant sapphire crystal glass is also provided with a Cyclops lens over the date indicator located at the 3 o'clock position in the dial in the Submariner Date models. The three-link steel bracelet ends into a safety clasp that can also be extended. In the 2008 and later models, the unidirectional bezel boasts of gold or platinum-coated numerals. The dial sports seconds, minutes, hour hands and markers those which are luminescent; aiding in easy readability.

Associations
A number of Bond movies have had James Bond sport a Submariner on his wrist. In 1960, The renowned diving company COMEX of France conferred the Submariner as their gadget of choice for saturation divers.  The Submariner has also been consistently popular with military divers since it has proved its finesse in the most extreme of water conditions through the years.
