Rolex moved its headquarters from London to Geneva in 1920. The brand owners took this step because the city was internationally renowned for making the best watches in the world.

Embracing the period and style of the Jet Age, the GMT-Master II M116713LN-78203_ Blk is an awe inspiring watch. Its precision and accuracy is such that is now used by airline pilots as an onboard navigation chronometer. The material used for the case of this timepiece is yellow Rolesor. A bi-directional and rotatable bezel in black forms the highlight of this watch. For the first time Rolex used the Cerachrom insert on the bezel of this model. Not only does this prevent the colour of the bezel from fading, but it also preserves the markings of the tachymeter scale that are etched upon it in gold. The gold rim of the bezel adds to its beauty.
The dial itself is in black with the hour indexes in white rectangles and circles creating a sharp contrast. A standard flat, three piece links Oyster bracelet is used accompanied by an Oyster clasp for security.  A 5 mm easy link bracelet extension provides additional comfort. A sapphire crystal protects the dial from scratches and a patented Cyclops glass over the date feature makes reading easy.

A distinctive feature of this Swiss certified GMT-Master II M116713LN-78203_ Blk chronometer is it GMT function. Thus this watch is capable of acting as a two-time-zone piece. The movement of the watch is mechanical and self-winding. A Parachrom hairspring, which is a unique feature of Rolex watches, makes the watch ten times more resilient to shocks and immune to magnetic interferences and temperature variances. The date feature is located at the 3 o’clock position on the dial and is capable of changing instantaneously at the stroke of midnight. An Oyster case makes it Waterproof up to 100 metres.

First introduced in 1955, the GMT Master II collection by Rolex was designed to meet the requirements of international pilots.  These watches were officially used by several intercontinental airlines including the iconic Pan American Airways. In the 1960s, when Concorde had performed its final test flight, both Brian Trubshaw (British test pilot) and André Turcat (French test pilot) were wearing GMT Masters.

Since 2005, the monobloc bezel and the Cerachrom bezel are being used to make these watches. They are manufactured from an extremely hard ceramic material that renders it virtually scratchproof and gives it anti-corrosion properties. Thus the colour of your timepiece will not fade or lose sheen over time. The graduations and numerals are inscribed using a thin layer of platinum or yellow gold. To produce a Cerachrom bezel, it takes approximately 40 hours. Your wrists expand sometimes due to an increase in temperature, thus making wearing a watch uncomfortable. The patented Easylink used in these watches lets you increase the length of the bracelet by 5 mm to keep you comfortable. All the watches in this series feature an oyster bracelet and have flat three-piece metal links attached at the end for your ease of use.

GMT Master II timepieces feature a separate 24-hour hand and a 24-hour rotatable graduated bezel, which enables you to conveniently read the time of three different zones in the world and lets you see time from two zones simultaneously. The fourth arrow tipped hand circles the bezel once in every 24 hours. A water-resistance of 300 metres enhances flexibility and durability and renders the watch with a spirit of adventure both on land and sea. The mechanical self-winding 3186 movement keeps your timepiece precise to every second.

The Rolex GMT is an exquisite piece of men's jewelry I remember way back in 1974 I went with my father to J Boseck the Rolex showroom in Kolkata and he bought a Rolex GMT steel for approx Rs 5500 and from that day it was my aspiration to buy one some day. If you happen to have an ordinary time piece, no one will pay much attention to you but if you happen to be wearing a Rolex then then people will start acknowledging you wherever you are. A Rolex on your wrist is as good as an exquisite piece of jewelry.

The model featured here is the upgraded version of the first diver watch submariner introduced in 1960s.submariner is a classic but gmt is exquisite.the gmt master 2,featured in two tone gold and steel still retains the 40mm case of submariner but incorporates an additional hand for the gmt function displaying two time zones simultaneously. The bezel is two tone with complete markers , an upgradation from the plain unidirectional bezel in the submariner.the bubble date display magnifies the date exactly 2 times.the movement is a superlative chronometer COSC certified ,the best in the class.

Overall verdict : high quality timepiece with a rare and exquisite design. Rolex is the supreme power in watchmaking that has high market value.
