If luxury is your standard, then the Rolex M116505-78595 Cosmograph Daytona is the watch for you. This finely engineered timepiece was originally introduced in 1963, to meet the high level of quality and functionality demanded by professional racing drivers. It has a beautiful, round Everose gold oyster case and Everose gold bracelet that looks perfectly chiselled to complement men of sublime elegance.
Made of 18ct Everose gold which is a patented pink gold alloy cast in-house by Rolex, this watch is a thing of beauty and uniqueness. The beautiful case has a highly reliable chronograph and bezel engraved with tachymetric scale that can help drivers accurately measure average speeds of up to 400Kmph/mph. Its oyster type case, with a diameter measuring 40mm, is a symbol of excellence, protecting the highly accurate perpetual movement from dust, water and pressure.
The crown has been especially designed for divers’ watches, and boasts a triple waterproof system. This Rolex patented Triplock winding crown can resist water pressure to an impressive depth of 300 meters (1000 feet). More impressive is the scratch resistant sapphire crystal case window made of synthetic sapphire, which ensures the watch lasts a lifetime.
With most of its aspects developed in-house, the dial of this Rolex watch has an artistic quality to it. There are three sub dials which stand out with its black colour that contrasts the remaining pink dial.
The Rolex M116505-78595 has been rigorously tested through a three-step process - a vacuum test, a compression test and a condensation test to make sure it meets the high pressure-resistance standard up to a depth of 100 meters/330 feet.
It is a self-winding mechanical chronograph with perpetual movement that is a certified Swiss chronometer, ensuring the watch not only lasts, but also tells time for a lifetime. The movement incorporates a Parachrom hairspring, which has a high resistance to shocks and temperature variations.
The functions of the Cosmograph Daytona includes hour, minute and seconds hands, small seconds hand at 6 o'clock. It also has a chronograph (centre hand) accurate to within 1/8 of a second, a 30-minute counter at 3 o'clock and 12-hour counter at 9 o'clock.
The oyster type bracelet has flat three-piece links and is made of 18ct Everose gold. This Rolex watch has a folding lock with a 5mm comfort extension link for securing the bracelet safely to your wrist.
In 1963, Rolex launched a new-generation chronograph. It was called the Cosmograph and was dedicated to racing drivers. The series was immediately recognised as an unconventional model with prominent style and detail. The chronograph counters for these watches were of highly contrasting colour, black against a light coloured dial or vice versa. This made the chronograph stand out clearly, so that the drivers could make out the time at a single glance. The initial models of the series featured a tachymetric scale, responsible for the measurement of average speeds over a given distance using the chronograph seconds hand. The dials were simplified because the chronograph was moved to the bezel. This made the range appear technical and sporty.
The Cosmograph Daytona is not just a timepiece. It pays homage to the passion for speed, which propels racers. The Sand Beach in Daytona, Florida became famous worldwide as the perfect place to beat speed records during 1903-1905. It has been a site where several official records were set. This led to Daytona being the world capital of speed.
The Cosmograph Daytona range has a dial, which carries the name “Daytona” in red letters. It is indeed an iconic watch, available in 904L steel. This steel is a super alloy used in high technology, aerospace and chemical industries because of properties like corrosion resistivity even in the harshest of environments. This Cosmograph Daytona boasts of a glorious heritage because the aesthetics of the later models deliberately remained true to the codes of the 1988 as it was during this time that the Daytona became self-winding. The newer designs were crafted in a method that they still exuded their old charm but modern features like perfect ergonomics also began to find to find their way. A masterpiece when it comes to blending engineering and micro mechanics, these watches feature a self-winding chronograph movement called calibre 4130, which is manufactured in-house by Rolex in its entirety.
The Watches from this series are used as trophies for every winner of Le Mans and the Rolex 24 Daytona races.
