Rado’s story began in a small venture of three brothers in the Swiss town of Lengnau in 1917. Setting out to establish a watch movements manufacturing factory named Schlup and Company after their family, the brothers Fritz, Ernst and Werner had probably never imagined the success they were to witness within a few years. As they produced their first line of watches in 1958 under the brand name of Rado, this house of watch making recognised a sure-footed beginning. The production of the DiaStar series in 1962 strengthened their foothold as the DiaStar was the world’s first line of scratch-proof watches. Proceeding to introduce the use of unconventional materials like sapphire crystal, hardmetal, lanthanum and ceramic into watch-making, Rado combined beauty and efficiency in its products. In 2004, this constant zeal for improvement enabled Rado to produce the V10K, recognised by the Guinness Book of World Records as the hardest watch on earth.
Rado’s emergence in the field of watch manufacturing was greeted with enthusiasm. In 1968, it became a part of the ASUAG Group. Subsequently, the SMH Group acquired the ASUAG. 1998 onwards, the SMH has been known as the Swatch Group. As a part of it, Rado has continued with its tradition of breaking ground and scaling newer heights of achievement in watchmaking.
A product from the Sintra collection for men, this watch boasts of a unique, eye catching design. The bracelet is made of platinum coloured hi tech ceramic, a product of Rado’s innovation. Shaped like the tapering cone of a snail, the bracelet ensures a snug fit and comfortable wear.
The square black dial, set within a ceramic bezel, is engraved with luminescent silver tone stick hour indices and watch hands. Minute markers are etched along the outer rim of the 35mm case. Arabic numerals indicating 10, 20, 30, 40 and 50 minutes positions are embossed on the outer rim itself. Rado’s scratch proof sapphire crystal protects the dial from damage.
A chronograph, the watch has three sub-dials on the main dial, recording 1/10th of a second at the 3 o’ clock position, small seconds at the 6 o’ clock position, and 30 minutes at the 9 o’ clock position. A date window occurs at the 4 o’ clock position. Powered by the Swiss made quartz technology, the watch provides exact updates on time and date. It is also water resistant to a depth of 30 meters underwater.
Rado’s journey began a little less than a century ago, in the year 1917. It was the collective initiative of three brothers, namely Fritz, Ernst and Werner Schlup. The company was first called Schlup & Co., and was a manufacturer of clockworks only. In 1957, after a span of 40 years, the luxury Swiss watch brand launched its first collection of watches, and acquired the name of Rado. It has been a long journey since then for the watch house. Rado has made a name for itself for their unique designs and use of innovative materials in the art of watch making. They have received over 20 international awards for their ground-breaking watches.
The flow of the case and the graceful lines of the Rado Sintra’s high-tech ceramic bracelet form a harmonious frame for the flawless sapphire crystal. Expressing the Rado core value of comfort, only high-tech ceramic, sapphire crystal or titanium touch the skin.
