Night time and underwater dial-visibility, were the two challenges that were faced by the watch making industry 7 decades ago. The Florentine watch maker, Officine Panerai, came across with the solution in 1949, by crafting a watch with a luminous substance that changed the aesthetics of luxury watch making. Paying tribute to this historic element, the Luminor collection unveils timepieces specially crafted to conquer adverse dark scenarios with enhanced dial readability.
The Panerai PAM00090 Luminor Power Reserve Automatic Acciaio for men, promotes night time and underwater time reading with its beautiful material finish, and luminescent filament. The steel case strengthens the watch, while rugged silver finish adds to its suave looks. Complementing the silver bezel is a black dial engraved with luminous indices, and Arabic numerals as the hour markers of the watch. Silver toned hands, with a green luminescent fill, add to the night time dial readability. Another standout design element of this time piece is the silver crown drawbridge, which protects the crown from direct pressure, giving the timepiece a touch of sophistication.
The silver lugs on the bezel are attached to a Panerai personalised alligator strap, providing excellent wrist comfort to the wearer. One can easily wear and remove this timepiece using the adjustable clasp attached to the strap.

Featuring an exclusive Panerai OP IX Calibre with a 42-hour of power reserve, the Panerai PAM00090 Luminor Acciaio is powered with the automatic movement. Its 300-metre water resistance mark makes the watch ideal for swimming and snorkelling, ensuring that the timepiece remains well protected at all times. It features 2 sub dials; a power reserve counter between the 4 o’ clock and 5 o’ clock dial position, and a small second’s counter at the 9 o’ clock position of the dial. There is a date window located at the 3 o’ clock dial position with a magnifying lens helping for a better date visibility. The anti-reflective coating on the sapphire crystal, used as the case window, enhances the readability of the dial under all lighting conditions.

Night-time and underwater visibility of watch-dials were two challenges faced by the watches made in the 1940’s era. Officine Panerai took up the cause of crafting a watch  with these unsuitable problems taken care ofand in 1949, came out with a groundbreaking solution. The Florentine watch-maker and founder of the world renowned Officine Panerai brand was successful in identifying a luminescent substance which changed the course of watch-making for generations to come. Named after this invaluable substance, the Luminor collection set a new benchmark for visibility in hostile conditions.

All Luminor models come adorned with a brilliant solution to further enhance the robustness and reliability of an achiever’s watch, the lever device protecting the crown.  This helps in making the crown more water-tight as well as shielding it more effectively. In 1956 Officine Panerai patented the distinctive crown protection bridge that these time-pieces are renowned for. The strap attachments are crafted from the very same block of steel as the case. The Luminor Base models are crafted from a single block of AISI 316L stainless steel resulting in sleek, comfortable wear. Sapphire crystal obtained from corundum, the second hardest material in the world, is used to prepare the anti-reflective, scratch-proof glass, another significant Luminor characteristic. The Luminor Base 8 Days Acciaio is yet another well established time-piece that emerged equipped with the famous P.5000, an in-house movement with an 8-day power reserve.

On 8th December, history was made by Panerai models which managed to garner more than 1 million euros as proceeds at the ‘Panerai Only’ auction by the renowned Artcurial Auction house for Officine Panerai. Two vintage models, a Luminor and a Marina Militare were auctioned off at a whopping 120,000 euros,  significantly much higher than any initial auction estimates.
