Design
Generally known as the Sailor’s watch, the Panerai Luminor PAM00088 GMT Automatic Acciaio woos the watch enthusiasts with its unmistakable design elements, rating it as one of the most beautiful timepieces in the world. Its one of a novel drawbridge housing the silver crown renders the watch with incredible design aspects as the crown can only be operated when the drawbridge is raised. This timepiece comes with a stainless steel case polished in silver, strengthening the watch with apt durability. The black dial complements the silver bezel with its luminous indices and appliquéd Arabic numerals as the hour markers of the watch. Thick sword arms, with green luminescent fill, enhance the readability of the dial in dim surroundings.
A Panerai personalised brown alligator strap gives comfort to the wrists of its wearers, with a steel adjustable buckle.

Features
The Panerai Luminor PAM00088 GMT Automatic Acciaio features a modern GMT function sub-dial on the 9 o’ clock position of the dial. The Sapphire crystal near the date window, located at the 3 o’ clock dial position, is refurbished with a curvy magnifying lens for a comfortable date viewing. Anti-reflective Sapphire Crystal coating over the dial protects the timepiece from scratches and frictional wear offs. The drawbridge protects the crown from centrifugal pressure. This timepiece also offers an impressive water resistant limit of 300 meters, which means the watch can be used during light water-sport activities.  Featuring 21 jewels and COSC certified automatic movement; this timepiece also offers a power reserve of 42 hours.

Interesting Facts
The Panerai Luminor PAM00088 GMT Automatic Acciaio was inspired by the vivacity of the sea. Paying tribute to the ancient sailors, who used Greenwich Mean Time to search for the establishment of their ship location, the dial of this timepiece is equipped with a GMT sub-dial helping the wearer to read the local time of another country simultaneously with the current one.

History
Night-time and underwater visibility of watch-dials were two challenges faced by the watches made in the 1940’s era. Officine Panerai took up the cause of crafting a watch  with these unsuitable problems taken care ofand in 1949, came out with a groundbreaking solution. The Florentine watch-maker and founder of the world renowned Officine Panerai brand was successful in identifying a luminescent substance which changed the course of watch-making for generations to come. Named after this invaluable substance, the Luminor collection set a new benchmark for visibility in hostile conditions.

Features
All Luminor models come adorned with a brilliant solution to further enhance the robustness and reliability of an achiever’s watch, the lever device protecting the crown.  This helps in making the crown more water-tight as well as shielding it more effectively. In 1956 Officine Panerai patented the distinctive crown protection bridge that these time-pieces are renowned for. The strap attachments are crafted from the very same block of steel as the case. The Luminor Base models are crafted from a single block of AISI 316L stainless steel resulting in sleek, comfortable wear. Sapphire crystal obtained from corundum, the second hardest material in the world, is used to prepare the anti-reflective, scratch-proof glass, another significant Luminor characteristic. The Luminor Base 8 Days Acciaio is yet another well established time-piece that emerged equipped with the famous P.5000, an in-house movement with an 8-day power reserve.

Events
On 8th December, history was made by Panerai models which managed to garner more than 1 million euros as proceeds at the ‘Panerai Only’ auction by the renowned Artcurial Auction house for Officine Panerai. Two vintage models, a Luminor and a Marina Militare were auctioned off at a whopping 120,000 euros,  significantly much higher than any initial auction estimates.

There are watches and then there is Officine Panerai’s successor to the original Luminor models, the PAM00088. This beautiful diving watch originates from the heart of the sea, in a time of brave sailors, who traveled the world. Essential to their navigation was the use of the Greenwich meridian and its mean time to calculate their position. That was then; the GMT function on this Luminor lets the wearer read the local time and that of another country, simultaneously with the help of a separate hand. Its in house OP VIII caliber is housed in a 44mm polished steel case along with a crown protecting device and bezel of the same material. Its black dial has luminous Arabic numerals and hour markers, including the markers for 24hrs along the edge. It has a date slot at 3 o'clock, and a small seconds dial at 9 o'clock, the small seconds dial itself matching the tone of the semi-skeletonised hands and the case.
