Launched as a part of the Constellation collection, the22.214.171.124.02.002 model draws inspiration from the Constellation Manhattan range, which was a revamped version of the original Constellation range introduced in 1952. The range was reintroduced in 2009, to widen the brand’s market and attract a new generation of Constellation wearers.
Crafted keeping in mind the legacy of its ancestors, the Omega Constellation Co Axial 38 mm 126.96.36.199.02.002 is also characterised by the presence of griffes or claws on the outer ring of the timepiece. With a 38 mm stainless steel case diameter, the watch has been perfectly sized to fit the slender wrists of women. The dial is silver in colour, and has a unique appearance owing to the contrasting golden hour indexes that adorn it. Dauphine shaped hour and minute hands move across the face of the watch flawlessly to display the current time. A small rectangular window at the 3 o’clock position records the current date, which changes instantaneously at midnight. A yellow gold stationary bezel, engraved with roman numerals, further accentuates the look of the timepiece and lends a sporty touch to an otherwise classic design. The watch is rendered its ability to resist scratches by the use of a domed scratch resistant sapphire crytsal, which has been coated with anti-reflective treatment on both the sides. This coating makes it possible for wearers to read the time even on bright sunlit days as it virtually eliminates glare.
Powered by the Omega 8500 calibre, the timepiece is unrivalled in terms of precision and reliability. The bridges and oscillating mass of the mechanism are visible through the transparent caseback, and have been decorated with an exclusive Geneva pattern in arabesque for a mesmerising finish. The co-axial technology further adds stability to the movement, and makes it a piece of horological artwork. Being water resistant to a depth of 100 meters, the watch can endure through activities like bathing, car washing and other daily chores. With an impressive power reserve of 60 hours, the Omega Constellation Co Axial 38 mm works flawlessly well for a long time.
The Constellation Collection by Omega was launched in 1952, has since been renowned for its ultra precise movements and elegantly refined cases. Century, a limited edition wristwatch unveiled in 1948 on the firm’s 100th anniversary, is the progenitor of the collection. Due to the overwhelming response received by this watch, the brand launched the Constellation collection, which imbibed the same qualities. In 1982, the Constellation “Manhattan” was launched, with which the four claws or “griffes” were introduced that keeps the sapphire crystal case intact to securely render the watch waterproof.
The Omega Constellation collection has been exemplified in several sub collections that include the Gents’ Collection, Ladies’ Collection, Orbis Constellation Star, Sedna, and the Luxury Edition. The watches in the Gents’ collection feature distinctive design factors – the renowned claws on the case, horizontal links for utmost comfort, and a Constellation star, which is situated at the 6o’ clock position. Featuring a vast range of watches with different sizes, metals, dials, and diamond options to choose from, the Ladies’ Collection contains at least one watch to suit every wrist. The Orbis Constellation Star supports Orbis International – which gives advanced eye care to some of the most inaccessible regions in the world, and it’s Flying Eye Hospital. An 18-carat rose gold alloy, consisting of copper, palladium, and at least 75% gold, has been used to craft the Constellation Sedna. This breathtaking alloy adds an innovative and stunning appeal to the watch, giving it a long lasting rose-coloured hue. The magnificent Omega Constellation Luxury Edition watches showcase multitude of diamonds in spectacular supernova pattern, which dazzles the eyes of the onlooker.
A gold Omega Constellation “Manhattan” was worn by the former president of the Soviet Union, Mikhail Gorbachev. One of the 20th century’s most popular musicians, cultural icon, actor, and American singer, Elvis Presley had worn a black-dialled Constellation Calendar.
