About the Nomos Glashutte Ludwig Collection
History
In 1991, Nomos launched the first of its collection. These collections were Ludwig, Orion, Tetra, and Tangente. The Nomos Glashutte Ludwig celebrates the legacy of the great music composer Ludwig Van Beethoven.
Essence
Inside the well-kept collection of Nomos, the bifurcation of collections is pretty basic yet difficult. They all look the same but they all have subtle differences. This is the beauty of Nomos, paying attention to details. With the Nomos Glashutte Ludwig collection, the scenario is pretty much similar. Even though the silhouette of the watch is pretty similar to the rest of the Nomos suite, it does take a rather unique approach toward minimalism. This unique approach is the addition of roman numerals on the dial. This makes it unique inside the hangar of Nomos.
Features
The Nomos Glashutte Ludwig collection is home to a small seconds dial on the 6 o’clock marker. Though the small seconds dial is absent from the Ludwig duo series, the elegant pencil hands take charge of the elegance department. Inside the Ludwig Neomatik Date series, the date window is fixed either at the 3 o’clock marker or the 4 o’clock marker.
Movements
The Nomos Glashutte Ludwig collection is home to the brand’s most renowned movements. Inside the manually winded movements, the timepieces are powered by the Alpha, Nomos’s first in-house calibre. For the automatic variants, the timepieces are equipped with various movements such as the DUW 3001, DUW 6101, and DUW 5001. The Ludwig neomatik series is home to two ultra-thin movements, the DUW 3001 and the DUW 6101. These two movements are sleek with a thickness of just 3.2mm for the DUW3001 and 3.6mm for the DUW 6101. Also, the DUW 6101 is the first neomatik movement with a date complication. Whereas, the Ludwig Automatic series is powered by DUW 5001, Nomos’s first automatic movement.
ABOUT THE MOVEMENT
The very first movement created by Nomos, Alpha is a fine example of traditional Glashütte watchmaking. A manual winding movement, the movement is quite different from its Swiss counterparts. Be it the conventional Glashütte stopwork which contains a long and curved jumper or the unique Glashütte perlage, the Alpha is a classic on its own. Another aspect which makes Alpha an excellent movement is its construction. More than 95% of the Alpha movement is created in Glashütte, making it one of the most authentic Glashütte movements of all. Turning to the spec sheet, the Alpha provides a power reserve of approximately 43 hours while vibrating at 21,600 vph.
