Luxury watch brand, Longines was brought into existence in the year 1832 by Auguste Agassiz. He initiated the business under a different name in the mentioned year. His watches earned immense appreciation in the local markets and he soon began marketing his collection in distant geographies. Agassiz's hard work and dedication brought him worldwide fame. However, his health started deteriorating and the legacy was passed to his nephew, Ernest Francillon in the year 1850. Longines is now a part of the renowned Swatch Group.
The Longines L2.622.214.171.124 from the brand’s Sports Legends Collection has been designed for those who love sporting elaborate pieces. It comes in a 47.50 mm stainless steel case presented on a brown alligator strap. It has a silver opaline center dial imprinted with minute track and a white lacquered outer dial printed with black Roman numerals. There is blue and black detailing on the dial as well as the bezel. It has a transparent case back that comes with a beautifully engraved back cover.
The Longines L2.6126.96.36.199 has self winding automatic movement. Its stunningl dial is covered with the robust sapphire crystal glass which is scratch resistant. The watch is water resistant to a depth of 100 meters.
Longines has been associated with various sports from the very beginning. It has been selected to time various esteemed international sports events such as the Commonwealth games and the Olympics. The brand has also been associated with the Formula One Racing, International Aeronautics Federation and various other major events. Other popular sports that the brand has been associated with include horse riding, gymnastics, tennis, skiing and basket ball.
There was a time when Longines timekeepers were not just artisans excelling in their field. They were explorers and adventurers, who not only designed watches but tested them during memorable flights and underwater adventures. The timepieces from the Heritage Collection celebrate their uninhibited spirits, responsible for creating history in the field of horology. Even today Longines continues to be rooted in its essence of originality by manufacturing stunningly designed timepieces. The company is recognised for introducing technologies, which have changed the face of the watchmaking industry and the Heritage collection is a tribute to such designers.
The watches from this collection are equipped mostly with round cases crafted from stainless-steel or pink gold. The dials are protected with AR sapphire crystal, making them scratch resistant and enhancing their sunlight legibility. Select models feature a transparent caseback allowing a glimpse into the intricate mechanism of the watch.
The collection is a tribute to mavericks and daredevils whose significant contributions to horology led to complex functionalities, enhanced reliability and durability. It is a matter of course that watches from this collection boast an assorted range of features in its models- so connoisseurs who want a blend of form and function can choose a watch with utilities specific to their needs. Certain timepieces have luminous hour markers for legibility in the darkness. Others feature a chronograh function to measure elapsed time. A date window in select models, gives a holistic view of time. A precise Swiss automatic movement renders the watches in the collection singularly reliable.
Charles Lindbergh was the first man to fly across the Atlantic Ocean. The flagship model of the heritage collection is the remake of The Charles Lindbergh model. To enable the timepiece to withstand the challenging conditions of the flight, the pilot himself conceived the original model. The remake of this watch is an extraordinary feat. It involves a unique design and elaborate detailing. The most interesting attribute of the watch is its “hour angle feature”. This trait allows the wearer in determining his current position. As the earth makes a complete rotation of 360 degree on its axis in 24 hours, one hour represents a change of 15 degree. So if the angle on the watch measured 30 degree, for example, it would mean that he is two hours off the GMT.
