The Grande Seconde has been named primarily for its substantial seconds sub-dial positioned at 6 o’ clock, which is true to its form, larger than the hours and minute’s sub-dial that intersect from above. The seconds dial has Arabic numerals engraved, whereas the hours sub-dial has Roman numerals adorning it. There is a noteworthy distinction between the hand designs. The slender sword-shaped cut of the seconds hand appears very well juxtaposed with the wider figure of the hours hand. The points of intersection of the two sub-dials include 5 to 7 o’clock, a range within which a horological venn diagram is drawn. This breaks through any monotony, conferring congruency and stylishness onto the time piece. The intersection houses Arabic numerals as a sign of continuation to the seconds dial.
The Swiss made Jaquet Droz Grande Seconde SW red gold features a stylish 45 mm case diameter with 18k rose gold used to craft the case. An elegant black dial becomes the face of the time piece, built with a unique appearance particular to its family. This luxury wrist watch houses a self winding mechanical movement with ruthenium finish, while also boasting of a power reserve of 68 hours. A ceramic bezel topped with a sapphire crystal glass gives the finishing touches to this trendy time keeper.
This models family has seen a bevy of new time pieces being added to the esteemed collection in the recent past. In 2014, following the release of the Grande Seconde SW red gold, Jaquet Droz unveiled three newer versions of the Grande Seconde SW line inspired by the contemporary colours- blue, anthracite gray and gray. These timepieces have only increased in sale since its start. The colour and the Cotes de Geneve decorated dial showcases impressive attention to detail.
It was Pierre Jaquet-Droz’s passion for watchmaking, inherited by his relatives that brought this exclusive brand to life. From 1738 to 1747, he devoted himself entirely to clock making and produced a series of longcase (or "grandfather") clocks whose increasingly sophisticated movements that were unlike any other clocks ever made in that era.
The Grande Seconde SW collection is sporty reworking of the brands iconic model. Inspired by the Pocket Watch created by Pierre Jaquet-Droz in 1784, this collection is a modern take on the iconic design with a subtle mix of sportiness and modernity.
