The IWC Schaffhausen Aquatimer collection features purest designs inherited from its first Aquatimer, launched in the year 1967. Embodying all the remarkable features of that generation from over 4 decades, the watches of Aquatimer collection have been continuously redesigned, and hence were launched with high class elements in order to sustain under deep aquatic buoyant pressure. The collection is exclusively crafted for divers.
Inheriting the recognizable changes from its predecessors crafted 3 decades ago, the IWC Aquatimer IW376803 boosts the underwater adventurous spirit by donning a contemporary design of a perfect diver’s watch. Its 44mm case is entirely fashioned out of stainless steel. The dual bezel complements a dial motion calibrating silver crown, and 2 pushers for the sub dial management located on the outer layer, as the inner layer is painted in black, incorporated for the SafeDive mechanism. A black lacquered finished dial adds to the sporty appearance of the watch. Luminous appliquéd indexes cover both the internal bezel and black dial as the hour and minute indexes of this timepiece. Silver toned thick baton arms honour the dial with an exquisite finish and increased readability.
For firm grip and extra comfort, a black rubber strap is attached to the bezel concluding the sporty time keeper with singular looks.
The IWC Aquatimer IW376803 features a day-date display window located at the 3 o’ clock position of the dial and 3 sub dials; small seconds sub dial at the 9 o’ clock, a 30 minutes counter at the 12 o’ clock, and a 12 hours counter at the 6 o’ clock dial position. This timepiece offers water resistance up to an impressive underwater depth of 300 meters. Its convex Sapphire Crystal anti-reflective scratch resistant coating on both sides protects the dial from getting damaged in high pressure deep sea levels. This timepiece also offers 42 hours of power reserve when fully wound, as its calibre is driven with IWC Calibre 79320 self winding movement. Its standout SafeDive feature ensures its divers with proper diving session timings by the interaction of its external and internal rotating sub dials.
1967 saw the birth of the pioneer IWC Schaffhausen Aquatimer watch which had impressive specifications for its time, sporting an internal rotating bezel and water-resistance up to 20 bar. The consecutive launches of GST Deep One, Two and Three have seen remarkable technology being implemented in this diver’s collection of watches. The GST Deep One was the inaugural watch featuring a mechanical depth gauge in the IWC brand.
Aquatimer Deep Three lays down formidable competition to other watches in the form of an external rotating bezel cut from Sapphire glass which has a coating of Super-LumiNova on the underside. The Aquatimer 2014 collection gives off a more sophisticated and purist air using only subdued colours. An ingenious mechanism called the SafeDive system has been introduced in the new collection which consists of the internal/external rotating bezel. This ensures that dive time is not exceeded even if the external bezel is accidentally moved, as the internal bezel only sustains anti-clockwise movement. These watches lay claim to not only being one of the best diver watches around, but also are prominent at special occasions and office wear.
In keeping with the true diver spirit and generosity, the IWC Aquatimer has through the ages extensively supported the Charles Darwin Foundation and the Charles Darwin Research station. The collection also enjoys a deep connection to Jacques Cousteau, researcher and film-maker, whose extensive work on the Galapagos marine Iguanas is widely acclaimed and watched. The Aquatimer Chronograph Edition ‘Expedition Charles Darwin’ was launched to commemorate the veteran naturalist’s findings in biodiversity at the Galapagos Islands. Showcasing deep attachment to the ocean and its accessories, bronze has been used to make the watch case for the first time in this company. It was commonly used in alloy form in building ships in the 19th century. This collection has seen diversity in the form of myriad fans at its famed launches such as American actor and director, Kevin Spacey, Czech model and actress, Karolina Kurkorva, Portuguese footballer, Luis Figo, Swiss professional road bicycle racer, Fabian Cancellara, to name a few.
Hollywood star Ewan McGregor delivered a soulful opening line at the launch of the new Aquatimer collection, ‘14 in Geneva – ‘Time may be a gift, but it is a priceless one’. The celebration named ‘Inside the wave’ took its audience on an enthralling journey below the ocean surface. The stars of the show were the Cirque du Soleil, the largest theatrical producer in the world.
