Promulgating deep attachment for sea and deep oceans, the IWC Aquatimer collection of watches is exclusively designed to pay tribute to the spirit and generosity of the divers. Since its inception, the collection has been constantly backing the Charles Darwin Research Station, and Charles Darwin Foundation.

The Aquatimer IW376801 timepiece for men, is an epitome of renowned Swiss style and exemplary high performance, which the IWC has always espoused in its long years of watch making tradition. Placed within the steel polished robust case, and fine bevelled edges, is a graceful silver dial, which proudly showcases the highly legible, radiant markers and hands, along with an internal rotating bezel. Apart from being extremely stylish, the dial is embedded with an exceptional functionality, and high performance calibre that are very much a part of this Aquatimer timepiece. The watch has propitiously championed the art and craft of the long established horological world. The flat silvered dial is elegantly nestled with the luminescent black rimmed hour, and minute hands along with the appliquéd black rimmed hour marker indices.
Complementing the look of the dial is the black rubber strap interspersed with a quick-change system, and a spring loaded lever placed on the lug ends, allowing the wearer to easily remove or replace the strap, and also providing extreme wrist comfort.

The IWC Aquatimer IW376801 timepiece for men is a prototype of a modern-day watch precisely because of its such features as a day and date display window positioned at the 3 o’clock position, 30 minute, and 12 hour counter sub-dial displayed at the 12, and 6 o’clock position respectively. There is also a small continuous running seconds’ sub-dial hand placed at the 9 o’clock position, and a large black central seconds counter hand beautified with the yellow skeleton arrow-head tip. Containing 25 jewels, this watch is driven by Calibre 79320, beating at the rate of 28,800 vph. It carries an impressive power reserve of 44 hours, and has a water-resistant mechanism to a depth of 300 metres, thus making this timepiece an ideal for snorkelling and underwater fun.

1967 saw the birth of the pioneer IWC Schaffhausen Aquatimer watch which had impressive specifications for its time, sporting an internal rotating bezel and water-resistance up to 20 bar. The consecutive launches of GST Deep One, Two and Three have seen remarkable technology being implemented in this diver’s collection of watches. The GST Deep One was the inaugural watch featuring a mechanical depth gauge in the IWC brand.

Aquatimer Deep Three lays down formidable competition to other watches in the form of an external rotating bezel cut from Sapphire glass which has a coating of Super-LumiNova on the underside. The Aquatimer 2014 collection gives off a more sophisticated and purist air using only subdued colours. An ingenious mechanism called the SafeDive system has been introduced in the new collection which consists of the internal/external rotating bezel. This ensures that dive time is not exceeded even if the external bezel is accidentally moved, as the internal bezel only sustains anti-clockwise movement. These watches lay claim to not only being one of the best diver watches around, but also are prominent at special occasions and office wear.

In keeping with the true diver spirit and generosity, the IWC Aquatimer has through the ages extensively supported the Charles Darwin Foundation and the Charles Darwin Research station. The collection also enjoys a deep connection to Jacques Cousteau, researcher and film-maker, whose extensive work on the Galapagos marine Iguanas is widely acclaimed and watched. The Aquatimer Chronograph Edition ‘Expedition Charles Darwin’ was launched to commemorate the veteran naturalist’s findings in biodiversity at the Galapagos Islands. Showcasing deep attachment to the ocean and its accessories, bronze has been used to make the watch case for the first time in this company. It was commonly used in alloy form in building ships in the 19th century. This collection has seen diversity in the form of myriad fans at its famed launches such as American actor and director, Kevin Spacey, Czech model and actress, Karolina Kurkorva, Portuguese footballer, Luis Figo, Swiss professional road bicycle racer, Fabian Cancellara, to name a few.

Hollywood star Ewan McGregor delivered a soulful opening line at the launch of the new Aquatimer collection, ‘14 in Geneva – ‘Time may be a gift, but it is a priceless one’. The celebration named ‘Inside the wave’ took its audience on an enthralling journey below the ocean surface. The stars of the show were the Cirque du Soleil, the largest theatrical producer in the world.

This Aquatimer from the 3768 series is very similar to its predecessors, differing only in that of the chronograph technical features which show how far IWC has come in terms of technology. The state-of-the-art rotating bezel with SafeDive system not only increases water resistance from 12 to 30 bar, but also prevents accidental changes in dive time. This dive watch boasting a 79320-calibre chronograph is a technical marvel, housed in a sturdy stainless steel case with a silver-plated dial. Its reserved design allows its use in everyday wear without attracting too much attention, although the hints of yellow here and there serve to remind us of its true heritage. The sheen of the face is matched by its clean and sharp rubber black strap offering a comfortable and functional fit.
