The first IWC Schaffhausen Aquatimer was crafted in 1967, bestowing the watch with all the modern features of that generation. The reinvented 2014 Aquatimer collection pays tribute to the Charles Darwin Research Station, and also enjoys a deep connection to researcher film-maker Jacques Cousteau, enumerating a deep connection with the underwater explorations.

The IWC (International Watch Company) Aquatimer IW329003 or the diver’s watch, gives a tough run to its competitors by featuring the SafeDive mechanism. It consists of dual silver bezels painted in silver, which rotate in opposite directions. The inner bezel is marked with black Arabic numerals and appliquéd indexes as the hour marks while the minute marks are indexed on the silver dial in black.Complementing the sporty looks of the dial are heavily silver toned hands and a grey second’s arm, finished with a luminescent fill, to increase the dial readability in deep underwater sea levels.
The bezel is held strongly by a black rubber strap, contributing to the grip as well as comfort for the wrist of the diver. The silver crown, punched with 9 holes, regulates the inlet-outlet pressure during deep underwater activities.

One of the best diver’s watches, The IWC Aquatimer IW329003 is equipped with SafeDive system. It ensures that the diver doesn’t exceed the dive time, even if the outer bezel is accidently moved with the water pressure, the inner bezel complements its movements by moving in the opposite direction. For safety reasons, the inner bezel is only set with anticlockwise movements. With a huge water resistance of 300 meters, this watch is the ideal modern diver’s watch from the 2014 Aquatimer collection. Its scratch-resistant Sapphire crystal case window seals the dial, ensuring the watch is not damaged in high underwater pressure. It also features a date window located at the 3 o’ clock position of the dial, making it a coveted sporty, and a formal time piece for the modern generation.

1967 saw the birth of the pioneer IWC Schaffhausen Aquatimer watch which had impressive specifications for its time, sporting an internal rotating bezel and water-resistance up to 20 bar. The consecutive launches of GST Deep One, Two and Three have seen remarkable technology being implemented in this diver’s collection of watches. The GST Deep One was the inaugural watch featuring a mechanical depth gauge in the IWC brand.

Aquatimer Deep Three lays down formidable competition to other watches in the form of an external rotating bezel cut from Sapphire glass which has a coating of Super-LumiNova on the underside. The Aquatimer 2014 collection gives off a more sophisticated and purist air using only subdued colours. An ingenious mechanism called the SafeDive system has been introduced in the new collection which consists of the internal/external rotating bezel. This ensures that dive time is not exceeded even if the external bezel is accidentally moved, as the internal bezel only sustains anti-clockwise movement. These watches lay claim to not only being one of the best diver watches around, but also are prominent at special occasions and office wear.

In keeping with the true diver spirit and generosity, the IWC Aquatimer has through the ages extensively supported the Charles Darwin Foundation and the Charles Darwin Research station. The collection also enjoys a deep connection to Jacques Cousteau, researcher and film-maker, whose extensive work on the Galapagos marine Iguanas is widely acclaimed and watched. The Aquatimer Chronograph Edition ‘Expedition Charles Darwin’ was launched to commemorate the veteran naturalist’s findings in biodiversity at the Galapagos Islands. Showcasing deep attachment to the ocean and its accessories, bronze has been used to make the watch case for the first time in this company. It was commonly used in alloy form in building ships in the 19th century. This collection has seen diversity in the form of myriad fans at its famed launches such as American actor and director, Kevin Spacey, Czech model and actress, Karolina Kurkorva, Portuguese footballer, Luis Figo, Swiss professional road bicycle racer, Fabian Cancellara, to name a few.

Hollywood star Ewan McGregor delivered a soulful opening line at the launch of the new Aquatimer collection, ‘14 in Geneva – ‘Time may be a gift, but it is a priceless one’. The celebration named ‘Inside the wave’ took its audience on an enthralling journey below the ocean surface. The stars of the show were the Cirque du Soleil, the largest theatrical producer in the world.

The Aquatimer is one of the staple collections at IWC, primarily being its diving division. This Aquatimer is from a new range of thought that a diving watch does not have to be necessarily flamboyant to carry out its diving function. Most diving watches are very bright and colourful making them at home when clubbed with diving equipment, which are marked with bright colours out of necessity. This renders them too flashy for everyday use. Along with its robust steel case housing an in house movement, this watch is suave in its understatement. With its stunning silver dial, highly readable luminescent hands and markers, an internal rotating bezel and the date function at 3 o’clock this watch is ready for anything. The smart rubber strap and water resistance up to 300 meters only further its cause.
