Valuing the true divers’ spirits with their passion for deep aquatic adventures, the IWC 2014 Aquatimer collection unveiled superb diver watches for watch enthusiasts, affiliated to deep sea diving or exploration adventures. The men’s timepieces in this collection are equipped with IWC calibre driven self winding automatic movement, serving the divers with huge power reserves.
Crafted solely for deep sea adventures, the superb yet simple IWC Aquatimer IW356808 seizes a contemporary take on diver’s watches. The stainless steel case strengthens the watch with the required durability to withstand deep aquatic pressure and buoyancy. This timepiece has a black uni-directional rotating bezel with a luminescent yellow 15 minute zone on the 12 o’ clock to 3 o’ clock dial position, for an improved time reading. It also features Arabic numerals as the minute indexes. Furthermore, increasing the readability of black dial, are thick hour markers filled with luminescent material, helping the diver to read the dial in dark, deep sea levels. The hour hand is coated with white luminous fill, while the minute hand is finished with luminous yellow filament. This watch comes with a quick-change presidential bracelet comprising an end link, which is attached to a spring loaded lever helping in the easy attachment/detachment of the bracelet.
With an IWC 30110 Calibre powered by mechanical automatic movement, and beating at 28,800 vibrations per hour, the IWC Aquatimer IW356808 offers a power reserve of 42 hours. This watch comes with a date display window located at the 3 o’ clock position of the dial. The scratch resistant Sapphire Crystal glass coating over the case window helps in protecting the dial from unwanted damages and harm. Its silver cylindrical crown monitors the dial movement of the hour and minutes arms along with the date window adjustment. Offering a huge water resistant to a depth of 2000 meters, this watch aptly relates its design philosophy to real time execution – “To create a watch exclusively for deep sea divers”.
1967 saw the birth of the pioneer IWC Schaffhausen Aquatimer watch which had impressive specifications for its time, sporting an internal rotating bezel and water-resistance up to 20 bar. The consecutive launches of GST Deep One, Two and Three have seen remarkable technology being implemented in this diver’s collection of watches. The GST Deep One was the inaugural watch featuring a mechanical depth gauge in the IWC brand.
Aquatimer Deep Three lays down formidable competition to other watches in the form of an external rotating bezel cut from Sapphire glass which has a coating of Super-LumiNova on the underside. The Aquatimer 2014 collection gives off a more sophisticated and purist air using only subdued colours. An ingenious mechanism called the SafeDive system has been introduced in the new collection which consists of the internal/external rotating bezel. This ensures that dive time is not exceeded even if the external bezel is accidentally moved, as the internal bezel only sustains anti-clockwise movement. These watches lay claim to not only being one of the best diver watches around, but also are prominent at special occasions and office wear.
In keeping with the true diver spirit and generosity, the IWC Aquatimer has through the ages extensively supported the Charles Darwin Foundation and the Charles Darwin Research station. The collection also enjoys a deep connection to Jacques Cousteau, researcher and film-maker, whose extensive work on the Galapagos marine Iguanas is widely acclaimed and watched. The Aquatimer Chronograph Edition ‘Expedition Charles Darwin’ was launched to commemorate the veteran naturalist’s findings in biodiversity at the Galapagos Islands. Showcasing deep attachment to the ocean and its accessories, bronze has been used to make the watch case for the first time in this company. It was commonly used in alloy form in building ships in the 19th century. This collection has seen diversity in the form of myriad fans at its famed launches such as American actor and director, Kevin Spacey, Czech model and actress, Karolina Kurkorva, Portuguese footballer, Luis Figo, Swiss professional road bicycle racer, Fabian Cancellara, to name a few.
Hollywood star Ewan McGregor delivered a soulful opening line at the launch of the new Aquatimer collection, ‘14 in Geneva – ‘Time may be a gift, but it is a priceless one’. The celebration named ‘Inside the wave’ took its audience on an enthralling journey below the ocean surface. The stars of the show were the Cirque du Soleil, the largest theatrical producer in the world.
