About the Frederique Constant Manufacture Collection

History

Back in 2001, Frederique Constant started the development of an in-house watch. This came to fruition in 2004 with the advent of the Heartbeat manufacture. Since the first in-house manufacture, the brand has crafted more than 30 in-house calibres inside their manufacturing facility. Today, all the watches inside the Frederique Constant Manufacture collection feature an in-house mechanical movement.

World's First Mechanical Smartwatch

In a bid to elevate the manufacturing capabilities of the brand, Frederique Constant decided to introduce a mechanical watch that can also double up as a smartwatch. In 2018, Frederique Constant launched the Manufacture Classic Hybrid. Equipped with the in-house FC-750 automatic movement, the watch displays a date sub-dial at the 6 o’clock marker. Whereas, the electronic module of the movement displays either the power reserve indicator or the percentage of activity goals set by the user placed on the sub-dial at the 12 o’clock marker. On the outer periphery of the sub-dial is the second time zone marker with a day/night indicator.

The Flyback Chronograph

Launched in 2017, the Frederique Constant Manufacture Classics Flyback Chronograph is fitted with the brand’s first in-house flyback chronograph movement, the FC-760. It is fitted with three sub-dials at 3,6 and 9 o’clock. The sub-dial at the 3 o’clock marker is a 30-minute counter and the sub-dial at 9 o’clock indicates small seconds. The Manufacture Classics Flyback Chronograph series is also equipped with a date window at the 6 o’clock marker and a tachymeter featured on the circumference of the dial.

The Worldtimer

In a bid to bring style and utility to the same timepiece, Frederique Constant fitted the Manufacture collection with a world-timer complication. The Manufacture Highlife Worldtimer is able to display time zones for 24 major cities. Sharing the same movement as the Manufacture Classics Worldtimer, the Manufacture Highlife Worldtimer is equipped with a famed in-house FC-718 automatic movement. The FC-718 is known for adjusting the whole world timer with just one crown, an achievement of its own. The lone crown is also used to adjust the date window at the 6 o’clock marker.

The Perpetual Calendar

Longevity is more of an emotion and to capture its essence, Frederique Constant came up with the Manufacture Highlife Perpetual Calendar. A series of timepieces that are equipped with a calendar that never seems to end thanks to an additional leap year marker. The leap year and the month marker are fixed inside the sub-dial at 12 o’clock. One can read the leap year with the small hand inside the sub-dial and the month with the longer hand. For astronomical enthusiasts, the watch also features a moon phase indicator at the 6 o’clock marker. For simpler measurements, the series also features a date and day sub-dial at the 3 and 9 o’clock marker, respectively.

The In-House Classic

The Frederique Constant Manufacture collection was made to emphasise the importance of crafting in-house timepieces. With the Manufacture Classics Worldtimer, Frederique Constant made sure that the in-house timepieces are intuitive and interactive from the ground up. Unlike many world-timers, the Manufacture Classics Worldtimer is operated by just one crown. Be it to adjust the date or to calibrate the world timer, the all-in-one crown handles the duties with ease. The date sub-dial is located at the 6 o’clock marker and the 24 cities are placed on the outer dial. The Classic Worldtimer is equipped with the in-house FC-718 movement offering a power reserve of approximately 38 hours. The other classic watches inside the Manufacture collection are the Manufacture Classics and Manufacture Classics Moonphase. The Manufacture Classic is fitted with a date sub-dial at the 6 o’clock marker and is powered by an in-house automatic movement, the FC-710. Whereas, inside the Manufacture Classic Moonphase, the date window and the moon phase indicator are fixed at the 9 and 3 o’clock marker, respectively.

The In-House Slimline

The Manufacture Slimline Moonphase, the Manufacture Slimline Power Reserve and the Manufacture Slimline Perpetual Calendar series fill the collection with a sense of minimalism with a clean and well-managed dial. The Manufacture Slimline Moonphase features a moon phase sub-dial on the 6 o’clock marker with the date printed on the periphery of the sub-dial. Whereas, the Manufacture Slimline Perpetual Calendar features the date, moon phase, and day on the 3, 6 and 9 o’clock markers, respectively. It also features a month and a leap year sub-dial at the 12 o’clock marker. Featuring a power reserve uniquely placed between the 9 and 11 o’clock marker, the Manufacture Slimline Power Reserve also features a date window at the 6 o’clock marker.

The Slimline Monolithic

In crafting one of the fastest-beating watches, Frederique Constant proved itself to be a versatile watchmaker. In 2021, the brand launched the Frederique Constant Manufacture Slimline Monolithic, a watch that vibrates at a frequency of 288,000 vibrations per hour or 40 Hz for better reference. This was achieved by fitting the in-house FC-810 movement with a silicon oscillator. This silicon oscillator is displayed at the 6 o’clock marker because, why not? Beating at such a high frequency requires higher levels of power consumption but even with higher consumption, the timepiece is able to offer a power reserve of approximately 80 hours.
