Cartier was established as jewellery brand in the year 1847, founded by Louis-Francois Cartier, who later diversified the brand into producing luxury wristwatches. The growth of this illustrious brand has been immense, going from manufacturing pocket watches to being quoted as the ‘King of Jewellers and Jeweller to kings’ by King Edward VII of the United Kingdom. Introducing the Tortue line of time pieces was an intelligent move by Cartier due to its peculiar shape and structure. The case has been modified to mimic a tortoise shell and this soon became a sight to behold amongst the characteristic round shaped cases that were being sold at that time. A phenomenon in innovative design, this soon went on to become a classic.

The Cartier Tortue time piece honours the distinctive shape of a tortoise shell. It carries on its case the distinguished octagonal crown set with a faceted sapphire. The dial is silvered guilloche and houses the sunray effect that makes this timepiece a watch-lover’s paradise. Also a treat for the eyes are the sword shaped hands made from blue steel to add a dash of colour to the dial. The strap of the watch is made using 18 carat rhodium-finish white gold to match the exact material of the case.

The Cartier Tortue watch model W1556365 is a classic in the category of women’s luxury watches with its distinguished curves and rhodium finish. It contains the Cartier calibre 8970 MC, mechanical movement with manual winding. A 30 mm small case diameter houses an 18 carat rhodium-finish white gold case with a thickness of 7.3 mm and width of 24 mm. This watch contains the hours, minutes and seconds indications on its dial, proclaiming it in a minimalist fashion. The case is tested as water resistant up to 30 meters under water.

The Tortue collection was officially launched in 1912. The collection with its tortoise inspired case became a gamechanger in terms of design among its typically round-shaped contemporaries.

This unique collection showcases edgy designs yet retains all the signature qualities of a Cartier. The characteristic feature of this collection is the tonneau-shaped case available in pink or white gold, which drew its inspiration from a tortoise shell. The strap meant to supplement the quiet sophistication of the case, is offered in textile or leather.

The dynamic Tortue collection stands out for the myriad functions that it avails for its user. Select models feature a perpetual calendar with an easy-to-read display. The days of the week are indicated with a charming retrograde hand. A multiple time zone indicator is also available in a few of these luxury watches with an option to change the time zone as and when necessity arises; thus making it the ideal collection for a globe trotter. Some pieces also come with a 24-hour time indicator with adjustment for summers and winters.  You can choose from automatic and manual watch movements for precise timekeeping.
