Founded in 1847 by Louis-Francois Cartier, this brand has been baptized as the ‘Pioneer in modern watch-making’. Crafting masterpieces fit to adorn royalty, and continually astonishing watch aficionados with the range of forms and styles is what makes the brand name so noteworthy. The watches date back to early 19th century, with the advent of jewelled watches that could be worn as broaches or chatelaines, and pocket watches. Louis Cartier pronounced that the wristwatches were the future of the watch making industry and through Cartier forayed into the land of Fine Watchmaking. The Tortue watch, introduced in 1914, is characteristically tortoise shaped and soon turned Cartier into the ultimate classic luxury wrist watch manufacturer. In this Cartier watch, the boldness of the design is accentuated in the light-hearted feminine interpretation.
The Cartier Tortue time piece, dedicated to the distinctive shape of a tortoise’s shell, carries on its case the distinguished octagonal crown set with a faceted sapphire. The dial is silvered guilloche housing the sunray effect that makes this watch an other-worldly experience for the wearer. Extremely pleasing to the eyes are the sword shaped hands made from blue steel to add a dash of colour to the dial. The strap of the watch is made from brown alligator with ardillon buckle in 18 carat pink gold for contrast.
The Cartier Tortue watch model W1556362 carries a distinguished appeal to watch aficionados looking for unique time pieces. It contains the Cartier calibre 430 MC, mechanical movement with manual winding. A 39 mm case diameter protects an 18 carat pink gold case with a thickness of 8.6 mm and width of 31 mm. This watch contains hours, minutes and seconds indications and the case is water resistant up to 30 meters under water.
The Tortue collection was officially launched in 1912. The collection with its tortoise inspired case became a gamechanger in terms of design among its typically round-shaped contemporaries.
This unique collection showcases edgy designs yet retains all the signature qualities of a Cartier. The characteristic feature of this collection is the tonneau-shaped case available in pink or white gold, which drew its inspiration from a tortoise shell. The strap meant to supplement the quiet sophistication of the case, is offered in textile or leather.
The dynamic Tortue collection stands out for the myriad functions that it avails for its user. Select models feature a perpetual calendar with an easy-to-read display. The days of the week are indicated with a charming retrograde hand. A multiple time zone indicator is also available in a few of these luxury watches with an option to change the time zone as and when necessity arises; thus making it the ideal collection for a globe trotter. Some pieces also come with a 24-hour time indicator with adjustment for summers and winters. You can choose from automatic and manual watch movements for precise timekeeping.
