A brand reputed for its excellence in accessory creation ever since its inception in 1847, Cartier stands as a resplendent face in the field of watch making even today. Initially Louis Francoise Cartier was primarily a jeweller until 1904, when the advent of the modern wristwatch marked a revolutionary turn in the history of the company. Several iconic pieces such as the Tank and the Santos are venerated by watch designers all over the world.
The Tank initially introduced in 1917, was a piece that drew its inspiration from the Renault tanks that fought the First World War. Cartier designs have been exclusively designed for men and women with a refined style statement, all over the world.
Designed for women, The Tank Solo W5200024 is a modified version of the original Tank. Rectangular in shape, the case measures 31mm x 24.4mm and is 5.55mm in thickness. The dial is silver opaline with sward shaped hands in blued steel. Embellished with a beaded crown in 18K pink gold and a synthetic cabochon shaped spiral, the watch is worthy of royalty.
A round scale alligator skin strap is attached to the 18K gold ardillon buckle. The watch is a homage to the fearlessness of the men that fought the war yet incorporating a feminine touch that reflect the same strength and valour that characterised the initial Tank.
Tank watches concentrate less on embellishments and more on quality and excellence of their pieces. A watch that can be used in the daily activities of life, the Tank Solo W5200024 is water resistant up to 30m. The watch incorporates a quartz movement, which is known for its perfect precision and smooth functioning.
The First World War succeeded in inspiring a whole line of watches when Louis Cartier, the founder of the iconic Cartier brand fashioned watches inspired by the Renault tanks introduced by the Americans on the Western Front. These intricately designed timepieces born from an unusual inspiration were eventually introduced by the brand as the Tank collection in 1917, before they were launched in the markets in 1919.
The Tank collection has cases available in both rectangle and square shapes similar to the proportions of the tough war-machine. The case is further accentuated with a cabochon crown and sword shaped hour and minute hands set in a classic dial with Roman numerals, exuding a vintage feel. The distinctively patterned bracelet is the highlight of this collection. It consists of rectangular links ingeniously integrated with vertical sidebars, which bring to mind the rugged construction of the tank’s tracks used during war.
Originally introduced as far back as World War I, today this coveted collection is crafted using cutting-edge technology to feature enhanced functions such as calendar and power reserve displays. They also offer a broad range of movements from the simple yet precise Quartz to the technologically complicated and unerringly accurate automatic.
The Tank collection finds its manifestation in 6 ranges: Francaise, Americaine, Anglaise, MC, Solo and Louis Cartier.
