An exquisitely refined and timeless allure is echoed in the Tank de Cartier collection of wrist watches. This collection has been inspired by the iconic ‘Tank’ watch which beautifully showcases the structural harmony of its namesake. The first Tank wristwatch was crafted in 1917, being inspired by minimalist design: four lines, with two parallel shafts made from gold or platinum, a sapphire cabochon on top of the winding crown and a leather strap. It encased a revolutionary square case which soon became a legend in the world of watch making. The elegant lines and shapes of the collection are focused primarily on coloured gemstones and are often represented in yellow or white gold. A masculine power and elegance is presented through the Tank MC watch. The perfection of its 1904 MC automatic movement, designed by the Cartier Manufacture, is visible through the transparent sapphire case back.

Utter dedication to perfection is the reason behind the Tank MC models success. The model holds a faceted crown in steel decorated with a synthetic spinel. Its dial enchants viewers with its silvered flinque glow and is embedded with Roman numerals on the outer ring. It is also protected by a scratch resistant sapphire crystal dome. The hands of the luxury time piece are made of blued steel and are shaped as miniaturized swords. This watch is customized with a semi-matte black alligator-skin strap with double adjustable folding buckle in steel.

The Tank MC W5330003 displays classic features and efficient functionality. It contains the Cartier caliber 1904-PS MC, a mechanical movement with automatic winding, for which the Tank MC model is renowned. It also boasts of a power reserve of 48 hours. It is a large time piece with a stainless steel rectangular case that is dimensioned as 34.3 mm x 44 mm. The time piece is 9.5 mm thick and is characterized by water resistance up to 30 meters/100 feet. This watch presents the hours-minutes indicator as well as a small seconds counter placed at the 6 o’ clock position. The 3 o’ clock hour marker is replaced with the calendar aperture.

The First World War succeeded in inspiring a whole line of watches when Louis Cartier, the founder of the iconic Cartier brand fashioned watches inspired by the Renault tanks introduced by the Americans on the Western Front. These intricately designed timepieces born from an unusual inspiration were eventually introduced by the brand as the Tank collection in 1917, before they were launched in the markets in 1919.

The Tank collection has cases available in both rectangle and square shapes similar to the proportions of the tough war-machine. The case is further accentuated with a cabochon crown and sword shaped hour and minute hands set in a classic dial with Roman numerals, exuding a vintage feel. The distinctively patterned bracelet is the highlight of this collection. It consists of rectangular links ingeniously integrated with vertical sidebars, which bring to mind the rugged construction of the tank’s tracks used during war.

Originally introduced as far back as World War I, today this coveted collection is crafted using cutting-edge technology to feature enhanced functions such as calendar and power reserve displays. They also offer a broad range of movements from the simple yet precise Quartz to the technologically complicated and unerringly accurate automatic.

The Tank collection finds its manifestation in 6 ranges: Francaise, Americaine, Anglaise, MC, Solo and Louis Cartier.

Louis Cartier introduced the Tank watch in 1917, when he was inspired by Renault tanks, the first modern tank which he saw in action first-hand during World War I. Its dimensions and lineation are remindful of those early tanks and its lugs blend flawlessly into the bare edges of the flat vertical sidebars giving the watch its unique identity, hence the "Tank". The emblematic traits of a Tank watch is its sword-shaped blued steel hands, and a crown set with a gorgeous blue spinel. The black bold Roman numerals only add to its allure in making it one of the most recognizable, desired and imitated watches of recent time. This particular piece houses a Cartier Caliber automatic mechanical movement and its polished finished stainless steel case is brought to life by its guilloche textured silver dial and black leather strap. Elegant. Iconic. Timeless.
