History
Cartier was established in 1847 by Louis Francois Cartier as a jewellery workshop with humble beginnings. Under the guidance of its founder and subsequent leaders, the brand grew to become one of the most popular luxury watchmaking institutions of the world. An evidence of its superior technological skills lies in the Calibre de Cartier, which serves as a platform for the brand to flaunt its first in-house movement, the calibre 1904. Watches from this collection are distinctively masculine and sporty, making ideal additions to the assemblages of watch enthusiasts.

Design
The 42mm steel case of the Calibre de Cartier model number W7100046, is perfectly circular and appears larger than life for enhanced athleticism. A portion on the right of the case extends outwards to encapsulate the faceted steel crown, inlaid with Cartier’s trademark blue synthetic spinel, which is also faceted. The silvered opaline dial of the watch is partially snailed along its rim and stamped with a Roman XII numeral to mark the hour, along with 7 other Roman numerals and 4 index stick markers. An external rail-track, positioned on the fixed bezel, provides smaller divisions of time for accurate readings. The two sub-dials at 3 o’clock and 9 o’clock and the extended date window at 6 o’clock are rimmed for an immaculate finish. Sapphire crystal glass casing on the dial renders it scratch proof, while a case back of the same material allows an insight into the meticulous working of the system. The black semi-matte alligator skin strap fastens to the wrist, with the help of a double adjustable steel folding buckle.

Features
Cartier’s in house calibre, 1904-CH MC, allows a mechanical automatic movement for precise timekeeping. The three sword shaped oxidized steel hands provide hour, minute, and seconds functions, with a calendar aperture displaying up to 3 dates. Two sub-dials provide the 30-minute and 12-hour features. The watch is water resistant to a depth of 100m.

Essence
Cartier’s technical superiority is given testament to by the relatively new Calibre collection. Featuring Cartier’s in-house movement, the 1904 MC, watches from this collection have served to unanimously increase the standing the brand has in the eyes of watch collectors and aficionados. Marking the transition of Cartier from a predominantly ornamental brand to one capable of high-tech marvels, the Calibre de Cartier is a glorious range of watches, incorporating three versions- the traditional Calibre, the Calibre Diver, and the Calibre Chronograph.

Design
Timepieces from the Calibre collection have a masculine and sporty design with a case diameter of 42mm. The crown guard boasts an intricate interplay of brushed and polished portions that enhance the allure of the watch. The crown features Cartier’s traditional inlaid sapphire. The perfectly rounded case is available in steel, 18K rose gold, or two tones with a steel case and gold bezel. The dial is offered in complementary colours of black, silver, and brown, with luminescence filled hands that match the time indices. The time intervals are marked by Cartier’s traditional Roman numerals alternating with index markers, and room for framed subdials. With a stainless-steel, rubber, rose-gold, two-toned or leather strap, the watch displays a balanced interaction between simplicity and complexity.

Features
Watches from the Calibre de Cartier uniformly operate on COSC chronometer certified mechanical movements. The Calibre and Calibre Diver sport expanded date windows and a subdial at the 6 o’clock position for seconds. The Chronograph has the date window at 6 o’clock and two subdials with hand indicators. The Calibre Diver sports a rotating ADLC steel timing bezel that has serrated edges for easy grip, and is water resistant up to 300m. The Calibre collection offers the zenith of Cartier’s legendary style and revolutionary technical skill.

I think this is a truly classic watch! The black leather belt and the steel case make a great combination.
