Established in 1947 by Louis-Francois Cartier, Cartier is the maestro in producing exquisite watches fit for royalty. As King Edwards VII once said, it is the “King of Jewellers and the Jeweller to Kings.” 2007 saw the launch of the Ballon Bleu collection- a line of watches crafted with excruciating detail to meet all requisites of the pickiest of watch aficionados.

The Ballon Bleu de Cartier Chronograph model number W6920075 for men incorporates unique features that epitomize the essence of Cartier. Its 44mm case is constructed of stainless steel, and is in the shape of a floating balloon with a secondary aperture at 3 o’clock to incorporate the crown. The crown itself is made of 18K pink gold, with fluted working around the diameter, and is inlaid with a blue synthetic spinel cabochon. Its lacquered dial is guilloche embellished with a sunray effect, marked with Cartier’s classic Roman numerals in black. An interior track denotes minutes. The three blued steel hands are sword shaped and perfectly aligned to the markers. Its dial is protected with sapphire crystal glass to render it scratch resistant, with the case back in the same material allowing beholders to observe the immaculate chronographic workings. A two toned bracelet, made of steel and 18K pink gold, with a double adjustable folding buckles fastens the ensemble to the wrist in a stylish yet secure manner.

The mechanical movement with automatic winding of the Ballon Bleu de Cartier Chronograph W6920075, operating on Cartier’s in house 1904-CH2 MC calibre ensures that the watch maintains exact time. A small second’s sub-dial positioned at 6 o’clock, and the 30 minute counter at 3 o’clock allows the watch enhanced horologic functionality. The current date is displayed through the calendar window located at the 9 o’clock position. The watch is also water resistant to a depth of 30m to offer maximum technological prowess with aesthetic superiority.

The unusual name of the Ballon Bleu de Cartier is due to its light, circular dial which is reminiscent of a balloon, and the blue sapphire adorning the side of every timepiece from this collection. With a streamlined and elegant design, the line offers watches that are suitable for both men and women. Sophisticated artistry and superior watchmaking skills displayed in every timepiece belonging to the Ballon Bleu collection makes it an extremely memorable experience for its patrons.

The primary attraction of the Ballon Bleu de Cartier lies in its simplistic yet contemporary crafting. The perfect circular shape of the case is gently succeeded by a second circle located behind the three o’clock position, which houses the sapphire cabochon set crown. The dial comes in the subdued tones of white and black, with select models extending the colour pallette. The centre of the dial is the guilloche worked in all Ballon Bleu watches, with some cases sporting a date window or additional subdials. The hands are sword shaped and available as hour, minute, and in some cases, seconds indicators. The fixed bezels of these timepieces are adorned with diamonds in certain models for an added element of glamour.  Watches from this collection operate on mechanical or quartz movements, with precise timekeeping abilities. The satin brushed or polished straps of the entire collection makes for watches that are ideal ornaments for the quintessential watch fanatic.

As King Edward VII of the United Kingdom once said, Cartier is the “King of Jewelers and the Jeweler to Kings.” Today, Cartier in general and the Ballon Bleu de Cartier collection in particular is found to cater to the needs of the royals. Kate Middleton was seen sporting a Ballon Bleu watch on her 2014 Australia trip, reinforcing the strong ties Cartier has traditionaly shared with royalty.
