History
Cartier was founded by Louis-Francois Cartier in 1847 in Paris, but the brand name was established worldwide by his grandsons Pierre, Jacques, and Louis. Well known for its wrist watches and jewellery, the brand has a long history of sales to eminent personalities and royalty.
The Ballon Bleu De Cartier collection was launched in 2007 and the watches from this collection add a dash of elegance to the wrists of both men and women. They have a complex shape that distinguishes them from others and there is a sapphire nestled in the crown.

Design
Elegantly designed, the Cartier Ballon Bleu De Cartier W6920100 has a round case with a diameter of 33 mm. The dial comes in stylish pink with a guilloche pattern engraved in the middle. It features blue sword shaped steel hands and Roman numeral hour markers engraved in stainless steel. Sapphire crystal protects the dial and renders it scratch resistant.
Like others in the series, this Cartier Ballon Bleu De Cartier showcases a synthetic sapphire cabochon winding mechanism instead of a typical crown. This cabochon is zealously protected by a stainless steel arc. The convex curves of the case are complemented by the satin finished bracelet links, giving the watch an elegant appearance.

Features
This timepiece functions on a mechanical movement with automatic winding. It won’t get damaged by accidental splashes as it is water resistant up to 30 metres.

Interesting Facts
England’s King Edward VII accredited Cartier as ‘the jeweller of the kings and the king of jewellers’. He ordered 27 tiaras for his coronation in 1902 and in 1904 he issued a royal warrant to the brand, which was followed by warrants from the courts of Russia, Romania, Spain, Monaco, Albania, Portugal, and several more countries.

Essence
The unusual name of the Ballon Bleu de Cartier is due to its light, circular dial which is reminiscent of a balloon, and the blue sapphire adorning the side of every timepiece from this collection. With a streamlined and elegant design, the line offers watches that are suitable for both men and women. Sophisticated artistry and superior watchmaking skills displayed in every timepiece belonging to the Ballon Bleu collection makes it an extremely memorable experience for its patrons.

Design
The primary attraction of the Ballon Bleu de Cartier lies in its simplistic yet contemporary crafting. The perfect circular shape of the case is gently succeeded by a second circle located behind the three o’clock position, which houses the sapphire cabochon set crown. The dial comes in the subdued tones of white and black, with select models extending the colour pallette. The centre of the dial is the guilloche worked in all Ballon Bleu watches, with some cases sporting a date window or additional subdials. The hands are sword shaped and available as hour, minute, and in some cases, seconds indicators. The fixed bezels of these timepieces are adorned with diamonds in certain models for an added element of glamour.  Watches from this collection operate on mechanical or quartz movements, with precise timekeeping abilities. The satin brushed or polished straps of the entire collection makes for watches that are ideal ornaments for the quintessential watch fanatic.

Associations
As King Edward VII of the United Kingdom once said, Cartier is the “King of Jewelers and the Jeweler to Kings.” Today, Cartier in general and the Ballon Bleu de Cartier collection in particular is found to cater to the needs of the royals. Kate Middleton was seen sporting a Ballon Bleu watch on her 2014 Australia trip, reinforcing the strong ties Cartier has traditionaly shared with royalty.
