About the Breitling Avenger Collection
History
Launched in 2001, the Breitling Avenger collection is a worthy successor of the Chronomat collection. Borrowing most of its DNA from the Chronomat, the collection is a more casual yet robust set of timepieces with the brand’s aviation persona. Breitling decided to invite the best inside the world of aviation for the collection’s launch. Personalities such as Scott Kelly, a retired astronaut who commanded the International Space Station on three occasions launched the collection. Apart from Kelly, the launch also included Rocío González Torres, the first Spanish woman to clock 1000 hours inside an F-18 Hornet.
Features
A chronograph by heart, the Breitling Avenger collection also boasts a simple, complacent dial called the Avenger Automatic. The Avenger Automatic features a date window at 3 o’clock and the automatic is also available in a GMT format with a long central hand depicting the second time zone. Apart from the GMT, the collection also features a chronograph. Available in two layouts, the chronograph variant features a 30-minute counter, seconds, and hour indicator on the dial. Adding to the aviation-driven aesthetics of the brand, the timepieces are also equipped with a uni-directional bezel.
Night & Sea
The precisely crafted Avenger collection is also home to certain specially designed timepieces. Called the Night Mission and Seawolf, these timepieces are the Brigade of Special Forces inside the Avenger collection. Such as the Avenger Night Mission is specially equipped with the capability to be operated by gloves. Whereas, the Seawolf is equipped with diving capabilities. These SpecOp timepieces are the horn of the Avenger collection.

This automatic chronograph from Breitling is an extraordinary timepiece. The satin-brushed bezel has stencil numerals engraved on it, which add a rather distinct touch to it. The bezel itself is a time rotating one, designed specifically for measuring time underwater during scuba diving. This is done by rotating the bezel in such a way as to match the zero marker on it with the minute hand. This is to be done just before diving. The minute hand will thus show time spent underwater by pointing to the markers on the bezel. As a safety measure, the bezel is fitted with a ratchet so that it can only rotate in a counter-clockwise direction. This means that even in case the bezel is rotated by mistake while underwater, it will err only on one side. This will ensure that you never underestimate the time spent underwater and always manage to come out before you run out of air supply. The watch is water resistant up to 300 m and even has a screw-lock crown which prevents water from entering the case through the stem hole. The Breitling Avenger II has a self winding mechanical movement and 42 hours of power reserve. The watch has been certified as a chronometer by COSC, the Official Swiss Chronometer Testing Institute.
