In more than five centuries of watch making, if a single watch maker is more renowned than others; it is Breguet, which was founded by Abraham Louis Breguet, in 1775. Contributing immensely to the art of watch making, Breguet is an institution, which has shaped the history of the modern wristwatch, making it what it is today. With a plethora of inventions such as the ‘Breguet styled hands’ , ‘guilloche dials’, invention of the ‘bumper,’ and ‘subscription needles’ among many others, these have left their mark on history, and are commemorated by watch designers all over the world, even today.
The silver toned dial is hand engraved on the rose engine. Measuring 41mm diameter, the case incorporates the classic Roman numeral hour markers, which indicate the path for the classic Breguet styled hands in blued steel. The delicate fluting on the case band, the welded lugs, the unique number, and the secret signature make this piece a manifestation of the perfection, that Breguet initially sought to create in his pieces. A scratch resistant sapphire back, and a brown leather strap with a folding buckle, make it a classic timepiece with remnants of the initial design aesthetic.
Among its foremost features are that it consists of manual winding movement, and a power reserve of 60 hours. A high frequency of 72,000 vibrations per hour prevails. The watch is equipped with a balance spring, pallet lever, and escape wheel in silicon that prevents damage from shocks. With a magnetic pivot, it has been proved that, ‘Breguet has set a new milestone in history by using magnetism to improve precision and reliability of timepieces.’ The watch functions hours, minutes and seconds. It is water resistant to a depth of 30 meters, making it durable in the long run.
The Breguet Classique Collection has been inspired by Abraham Louis Breguet’s styling. Thus it epitomizes the watchmaking ideology of elegant and refined designs, lucidity, and accuracy. Select models of the Classique wristwatches are made of precious materials with fired-enamel dials, giving them a sophisticated appeal. All the watches in this collection have leather straps of different shades and open-tipped Breguet style hands in blue, which give them a distinctive appearance. The casebands of all the watches are fluted- a signature Breguet feature. Most of the watches in the collection are ultra-slim and are manually wound or feature automatic movement. The collection features the quintessence of Breguet’s original features along with some contemporary additions. Different models include several bestselling features like the phases and age of the moon, power-reserve indicator, time zone indicator, water-resistance and more.
Breguet has received several awards for the watches in the Classique collection. The Classique 3637 got the Orologi Award for its Minutes Repeaters in 1996, the Classique Chronograph 5238 got the World Photo Press Awards in the Grand Prix in Prestige Category in 2003, the Classique 5177 received the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genéve in 2006, the Classique 5717 was the recipient of the Public Prize award in the Men's Watch Category in 2011 and the Classique Complications 3795 was bestowed with the Best Wristwatches of 2014 award.
In 2013, Breguet launched the Classique Chronométrie 7727, which has a brilliant patented (Patent issued in 2010) feature of protecting the magnetic pivot of the watch thus further enhancing its accuracy and rendering its mechanism safe from external shocks. In late 2013, the brand launched the Classique Tourbillon Extra-Plat Automatique 5377,which incorporates the world’s thinnest automatic tourbillon.

Classic 7727 has used silicon as a material for major machinery like balance spring, wheel etc. which not only increases the time precision by causing less friction, but also nullifies the effect of magnetism. Besides, it has taken care of magnetic effects while designing the mechanism. Two magnets have been incorporated at the two ends to support the balance pivot. Also, a strong magnet in the dial side makes the balance pivot suspended. The combination of silicon and magnetic effect are able to generate a high frequency movement, with precision of -1 to +3 seconds in time keeping. The classic look makes it wearable with any formal/semi-formal/ethnic outfit.
This masterpiece has redefined the tale of vintage time keeping with innovation.
