In 1845 A. Lange & Sohne was founded by Ferdinand A. Lange, an extremely talented watchmaker from Germany, who made finer and high-end quality pocket watches. However, in 1990, Ferdinand A. Lange’s great-grandson, Walter Lange, along with his friend and partner, Günter Blümlein, relaunched the company in Glasshutte.  The Lange 1 was introduced in 1994, and since then there has been no turning back for the brand.

The A. Lange & Sohne Grand Lange 1 139.032 is a classic men’s watch designed with a round case. The diameter of the case is 41 mm, which comes with 9.5 mm of thickness. The material that goes into making the case is 18kt rose gold, which makes it look more elegant and stylish. The crystal is made up of scratch resistant sapphire, which not only gives an impeccable character to this watch, but also protects the dial from frictional wear offs. Its flat metallic silver coloured main dial is enclosed by a fixed bezel.
To provide extreme wrist comfort to the wearers, the strap of this watch is made up of black alligator leather and the clasp type used is tang buckle. In a nutshell, this watch piece is a fine amalgamation of beauty, elegance, style and comfort.

The highly acclaimed features of the A. Lange & Sohne 139.032, include the hour and minute sub-dial offset on the left side of the dial, a seconds sub-dial located on the bottom right corner of the main dial, a patented large double date display window placed at the top right corner of the dial, in addition to the moonphase aperture located at the centre of the hour and minute sub-dial. Besides these, the date correction button is located on the case edge at the 10 o’clock position of the dial, thus, making it convenient and easy to set and change the date. There is also a power reserve indicator located at the 3 o’clock position carrying an approximate power reserve of 72 hours.  This timepiece is powered with mechanical winding movement.

A.  Lange & Sohne, the popular German watch making brand, introduced its very first collection of watches on 24 October 1994, with Lange 1 being the face of the brand. Right from finding the location, setting up the offices and workshops, to installing machineries and designing watches in-house – the ultimate aim was to create extraordinary watches that could race with time and could give worldwide acclamation to Germany, placing it on the map of high-end watch making craft. Out of the four new watches that were unveiled on 24 October 1994, it is the iconic face of Saxon brand, the Lange 1 that brought name and fame to the country and eventually placed A. Lange & Sohne on the map of high-end watch-making craft. The Lange 1 collection proclaims originality, while staying deeply rooted in the line of tradition. Whereas the majority of the watches exhibited central seconds and a small date display window; the Lange 1 put forth a fine display of unique characteristic features, such as, it has an off central hour/minute dial, a small seconds’ sub-dial, a large power reserve indicator as well as an outsized date aperture, that too, without any overlapping of features. It also embodied a very famous signature-chased arc, including the “Glashütte i/SA”, where “i/SA” is an acronym for “in Saxony”.

The sleek silhouettes and subtle aesthetics of Lange 1 set it apart from other luxury watch collections. Owners can have their pick, whether they wish to own an 18 carat gold or platinum metal watch. With the unusual design layouts of dials, the off-centred timings, sword-shaped hour and minute hands, including even the power reserve indicator, and needle-shaped second hands, the Lange 1, immediately after its launch, caught attention of the worldwide watch enthusiasts.

With the ever growing popularity that made Lange 1 the monumental icon of the brand, it has now become a centrepiece of the watch family comprising 15 models, characterized by interesting complications, different case diameters with self-winding or manually wound version. Since this collection of watches is refined out of a fine metallic body, its most coveted models raise record breaking prices in auctions. Each timepiece in this collection is powered with shock resistant screw balance, 9 screwed gold chatons, 53 jewels, 365 individual parts, etc. housed in a beautifully designed case. Besides, this luxurious Lange 1 collection features a tooled crocodile leather strap to provide a firm and comfortable grip to its wearers.
