About the Parmigiani Tonda PF Collection
History
The latest addition to the brand's arsenal, the Parmigiani Tonda PF collection fits inside the latest trend of ‘athleisure' watches. Launched in 2021, Parmigiani caught up on the trend of crafting high-end sports watches with superior aesthetics. Bridging the gap between sports and a dress watch, the athleisure by Parmigiani reflects the Haute Horlogerie standards of the watchmakers.
Features
The Parmigiani Tonda PF collection is equipped with comfortably integrated bracelets and a Grain d'Orge guilloché dial. The unique guilloche pattern on the dial coupled with skeleton hands makes for a perfect dress watch. The guilloche pattern is not present in series such as Skeleton, Flying Tourbillon, and Split-Seconds Chronograph. The Tonda PF Rose Gold & Steel Platinum Skeleton variants showcase the automatic in-house movement PF777 displayed on the dial. On the dial of the Tonda PF Micro-Rotor is a date window at the 6 o'clock marker. Unlike many automatic watches, the case back is equipped with a micro-rotor for winding the movement giving way for a better view of the movement. Inside the Tonda PF Chronograph, the 30-minute counter, the hour counter, and the seconds counter are fixed at the 3, 9, and 6 o'clock markers. The Tonda PF Chronograph also features a date window which is unusually placed between the 4 and 5 o'clock marker. The Tonda PF collection is also home to an Annual Calendar series which has timepieces equipped with month, day, and moon phase complications. The date is marked by a long central crescent-tipped hand.
Complications
The Parmigiani Tonda PF collection features various complications such as a flying tourbillon, GMT, and Split-Seconds. The Tonda PF Flying Tourbillon series is fixed with a tourbillon at 7 o'clock. The reason behind fixing the complication at such an unusual position is to commemorate the founder, Michel Parmigiani who was born on 2nd December 1950 at 7:08 am. Tonda PF is also equipped with a dual-timer called the GMT Rattrapante. Inside this GMT, the second time zone is denoted by a rose gold plated central hand. Another complication is the split-seconds chronograph. The Tonda PF Split-Seconds Chronograph is equipped with a golden fly back hand and three chronograph sub-dials denoting hour, minute and seconds. Apart from these complications, the Split-Seconds series is also capable of measuring heart rate by a pulsometer on the flange of the dial.
ABOUT THE MOVEMENT
Developed in collaboration with Parmigiani's sister company, Vaucher Manufacture, the calibre PF070 is a powerful movement with impressive specifications. It features an integrated chronograph construction with a column wheel and a vertical clutch. It measures 30.6mm in diameter and only 7mm in thickness. Additionally, it boasts a high-frequency rate of 36,000 vibrations per hour and a substantial power reserve of 65 hours. This COSC-certified manufacture movement powers the Tonda PF Sport Chronograph watches and is visible through their sapphire crystal caseback. It is decorated meticulously with open-worked bridges with satin finishing, hand-bevelled edges, and a skeletonised pink gold rotor fashioned like the steering wheel of the Ferrari 250 GTO.
