About the Nomos Glashutte Orion Collection
History
First launched in 1994 when Nomos as a brand was breathing fire into its dormancy. The Nomos Glashutte Orion collection has been inside the brand’s inventory since the beginning. From celebrating the 25th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall to the very first watch to be equipped with Nomos’s manufacture calibre, the Alpha, Orion collection has become the eponym of the brand.
Features & Essence
One of the collections from the early stages of the brand, the Nomos Glashutte Orion is a typical no-nonsense dress watch. With no diamonds, gold plating, or complex complications, the Orion stands a foot apart from the common beating of the current horological world. The tidy index markers and long slender hands depict the innate beauty of simplicity that is inculcated inside the Orion collection. Inside the collection, the Orion neomatik date is fitted with a date window at 3 o’clock and a small seconds hand at 6 o’clock. Whereas, inside the Orion 38 date, the date and small seconds both are fixed at the 6 o’clock marker.
Movement
Inside the collection of timepieces is the automatic movement called the ‘DUW 3001’. The famed DUW 3001 is a movement that created quite a stir inside the horology world. The stir was created due to the efficiency of the DUW 3001 calibre. The efficiency at which the movement functions is 94.2%. This makes it one of the most accurate mechanical movements in the world. Apart from the DUW 3001, the collection is also home to the Alpha, Alpha.2, DUW 6101, and DUW 4101 movements. The Alpha movement was the first in-house movement created by Nomos. Whereas, the Alpha 2 movement is heavily based on the Alpha movement but with better accuracy.
ABOUT THE MOVEMENT
Known as the movement that broke the Swiss monopoly, the DUW 4101 is fitted with the groundbreaking escapement called the Nomos Swing System. The Swing System is recognised by its signature blue balance spring and was first launched in 2014. The DUW 4101 also features Nomos’s patented date mechanism which can be found inside the Orion or the Metro collections. This manual-winding, in-house movement also delivers an impressive performance with a power reserve of approximately 42 hours.
