About the Junghans max bill Collection
The introduction of the Max Bill collection in the late 1950s marked a pivotal moment for Junghans, bridging the gap between functionality and aesthetic simplicity. The design was the brainchild of renowned Swiss artist and architect Max Bill, who drew inspiration from the Bauhaus philosophy, which emphasised the principle that form follows function. Max Bill’s vision of minimalism is evident in every facet of the collection. The watches feature a clean, logical dial layout that directs focus solely to the time, epitomising the mantra of "less is more." This characteristic design has made the Max Bill a timeless icon, appealing to those who appreciate both modernity and tradition.
Design And Iterations
The watches are equipped with automatic movements, harnessing the energy generated by the wearer, ensuring they not only keep time but also reflect the philosophy of sustainable design. Each iteration within the Max Bill collection showcases distinct features that enhance its usability and aesthetic appeal. The Max Bill Automatic, for instance, has a clean and legible dial and utilises the Swiss ETA-based calibre J800-1, providing a power reserve of 38 hours. Additionally, the collection includes the Handaufzug models, which feature a slightly longer power reserve of 42 hours, celebrating the tradition of manual winding while maintaining a minimalist design.
Max Bill Chronoscope adds a contemporary touch to the collection, featuring a bicompax layout with sub-dials for chronograph functions. This model retains the core principles of the collection while introducing additional complexities and offers options for both indices and numerals. Max Bill Damen tailored specifically for women introduces fresh colour options while adhering to the puristic design principles of the collection. These models feature quick-release straps, allowing for effortless changes to suit various outfits and reflect the ideal of combining practicality with beauty. The legacy of Max Bill and Junghans endures, illustrating a commitment to thoughtful design that resonates with modern sensibilities while honouring the heritage of exceptional craftsmanship.
ABOUT THE MOVEMENT
Junghans borrowed the popular architecture of ETA 2824 and added their unique spin to create the calibre J800.5. Powering the Max Bill Regulator watches, calibre J800.5 is a time-and-date automatic movement that bears centralised minute marking. Meanwhile, the hours and seconds are raised to individual counters at 12 and six o'clock, respectively. It also supports a date aperture and provides a power reserve of approximately 38 hours while beating at a frequency of 4Hz.
