About the IWC Ingenieur Collection
The IWC Ingenieur collection, introduced in 1955, was created for professionals such as engineers, doctors, pilots, and scientists who worked in environments with strong electromagnetic fields. The watch made during the time when technological advancement was at its peak, the Ingenieur featured an innovative anti-magnetic case designed to protect against magnetic interference. It was also equipped with a unique bidirectional automatic movement developed by Albert Pellaton. This technical excellence quickly established the Ingenieur as a symbol of rugged sportiness and precision.
Designs And Iterations
Over the years, the Ingenieur has undergone several iterations. In the 1970s, the collection took a bold new direction under the creative vision of Gérald Genta, one of the most influential watch designers of the 20th century. Genta's Ingenieur SL, or the “Jumbo Ingenieur,” introduced in 1976, featured a distinctive integrated bracelet, screw-in bezel, and a utilitarian aesthetic. This model set a new standard for luxury sports watches, blending technical functionality with modern design elements. The current Ingenieur Automatic 40 pays homage to their classic design while incorporating modern enhancements, such as refined finishing techniques, ergonomic upgrades, and a newly designed crown guard.
The collection also includes the Ingenieur Chronograph which incorporates a touch of modernism with three sub-dials and a tachymeter scale for measuring speed. These sub-dials and the tachymetre are thoughtfully placed at the nine, twelve, and six o'clock markers. Meanwhile, Ingenieur Perpetual Calendar Digital Date-Month features a unique model with a flyback chronograph function and a digital display for the date and month. Each iteration reflects IWC's dedication to both innovation and tradition, ensuring Ingenieur remains a cornerstone of their brand's legacy in precision watchmaking.

ABOUT THE MOVEMENT
The calibre 32111 belongs to the esteemed 32000-calibre series of automatic movements crafted by IWC. Manufactured at the ValFleurier facilities of the Richemont Group, its design is shared with other popular Richemont brands. It utilises silicon technology for enhanced durability and a bidirectional pawl-winding system that engages the mainspring whenever the rotor moves, regardless of direction. Notably, this calibre boasts an extended power reserve of 120 hours, equivalent to five days. Operating at a frequency of 28,800bph or 4Hz, its intricate design is adorned with Geneva stripes and perlage patterns.
