About the Grand Seiko Evolution 9 Collection

The Grand Seiko Evolution 9 collection was launched in 2020, introducing a new design direction that builds on the brand's legacy while embracing contemporary aesthetics and functionality. Named "Evolution 9" to signify the nine stages of Grand Seiko's design journey, this collection represents a significant step forward in the brand's pursuit of horological excellence and refinement. All the timepieces within the collection are governed by the three principles of Grand Seiko's Evolution 9 Style.

Evolution 9 Style

The Evolution 9 Style is a pivotal chapter in Grand Seiko's history, reflecting an evolution of the brand's design language. Rooted in the principles established by the 1967 Grand Seiko 44GS, the Evolution 9 Style incorporates three core principles: "Legibility," "Comfort," and "Beauty."

The Legibility principle emphasises clear, easy-to-read dials, achieved through high-contrast markers and hands, and anti-reflective sapphire crystals. The meticulous finishing ensures that each element stands out distinctly, even in low light conditions. Further, the Evolution 9 watches have an ergonomic design focused on wearability, with cases and bracelets engineered to sit comfortably on the wrist. The collection's pieces are crafted to balance heft and elegance, providing a secure yet unobtrusive fit. Finally, the principle of beauty spotlights aesthetic appeal enhanced by the harmonious proportions and meticulous Zaratsu polishing, which creates distortion-free mirrored surfaces. The dials often feature intricate textures inspired by natural elements, adding depth and visual interest.

Iterations

The Evolution 9 collection comprises a diverse range of timepieces, each offering unique complications and features. Key models include the White Birch watches, with SLGA009 boasting a Spring Drive movement with a 120-hour power reserve and SLGH005, powered by the high-beat calibre 9SA5. These models exemplify precision and innovation, hallmarks of the collection.

Other notable iterations include the Tentagraph, Grand Seiko's first mechanical chronograph, the SLGA023—a 200-metre water-resistant dive watch, and the SBGC251—a chronograph GMT watch. Each watch within the collection maintains the Evolution 9 principles, blending advanced technology with timeless design.
