About the Eberhard & Co. Scafograf Collection
Eberhard & Co.'s entry into the contemporary horological scene was marked by the Scafograf. This distinguished dive watch won the Grand Prix d'Horlogerie de Genève in the Sports Watch category in 2016, solidifying its place in watchmaking history. Originating in the 1950s, the Scafograf has undergone a remarkable evolution, renowned for its superior craftsmanship, distinctive size, and advanced functionality. In 1966, the Scafograf 300 was introduced, featuring design elements reminiscent of the contemporary Omega Seamaster 300, including lyre lugs and a case crafted by HF (Huguenin Freres), the same maker for Omega. The latest version of the Scafograf 300, introduced approximately 50 years later, preserves some of these classic design cues while showcasing evolutionary developments.
Features and Iterations
The Scafograf's design mastery enables it to conquer the ocean's depths, with consistent design elements across the collection and minor alterations for various iterations. Crafted from stainless steel, the watch measures 43mm in diameter and features a 21mm lug width. It is equipped with a ceramic, unidirectional 120-click diver's bezel, a screw-down caseback and crown, a helium valve, and 300m of water resistance. The anti-reflective sapphire crystal and a strap with a pin buckle complete its robust design. Powering this dive watch is the dependable ETA 2824-2 movement.
The Scafograf 300 MCMLIX, commemorating the collection's launch year of 1959, stands out as a modernised version that amplifies the classic elements of the original Scafograf for today's wearer. For the modern jetsetter, the Scafograf GMT offers a sophisticated solution with its GMT complication, allowing travellers to effortlessly keep track of multiple time zones. Additionally, the Scafograf 100, designed with a feminine touch, caters to contemporary women seeking both elegance and functionality in their timepieces.
ABOUT THE MOVEMENT
Sellita, once a reassembly company, is now the second-largest movement maker in Europe. They are known for producing the renowned calibre SW200-1, an automatic movement that serves as a popular alternative to the calibre ETA 2824-2. It is widely used by many watchmakers as the main and base calibre. The SW 200-1 powers essential watch functions such as the three central hands display and date, boasting a 38-hour power reserve and operating at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour. However, these specifications can be adjusted by brands to meet their specific requirements.
