About the Corum Golden Bridge Collection
Corum’s Golden Bridge collection is one of the most recognisable innovations in the world of fine watchmaking. Introduced in 1980, the Golden Bridge was a bold design that reshaped traditional watch construction by placing its baguette-shaped movement front and centre. This linear movement, suspended in a bridge-like formation, became a symbol of the brand's avant-garde approach. The inspiration behind the Golden Bridge stems from Corum's vision to merge horological craftsmanship with architectural elegance. Over the decades, this collection has been expanded and reimagined, but its core idea of showcasing the movement as a central design element remains unchanged.
Exploring The Collection's Iterations
The Golden Bridge’s design has always focused on transparency and craftsmanship. The linear movement, often encased in a sapphire crystal, is suspended between two plates, allowing wearers a full view of the calibre’s intricate workings. The original Golden Bridge featured a rectangular case that set the stage for future variations, combining minimalism with a striking presentation of the mechanical calibre. In 2010, Corum introduced the Automatic Golden Bridge to mark the 30th anniversary of the collection. This version featured an innovative winding system, with the rotor positioned around the movement rather than obscuring it allowing for even greater visibility of the movement, a hallmark of the collection.
The Golden Bridge Round was launched in 2016, offering a new perspective by housing the baguette movement in a round case for the first time. This 43mm model created a dynamic contrast between the linear movement and the circular case, bridging the traditional round case and the modern, linear calibre. A smaller 39mm version was introduced later, catering to those who preferred a more compact option. The Golden Bridge Rectangle iteration, with its Art Deco influences, further evolved the original rectangular case. This model incorporates finely crafted geometric elements, including 18K gold structures representing Roman numerals. Corum further explored the fusion of shape and substance with the Golden Bridge Stream, which paid homage to the streamlined architectural designs of the mid-20th century. Its flowing, dynamic curves were a nod to contemporary architecture, creating a modern yet timeless look.
