About the Christiaan van der Klaauw Astronomical Masterpieces Collection
The Christiaan van der Klaauw Astronomical Masterpieces represent a unique confluence of horology and the cosmos, creating timepieces that bring the wonders of the universe to the wrist. This collection is devoted to capturing celestial phenomena in mechanical form, showcasing some of the most intricate and precise astronomical complications ever created. Each watch in the collection reflects the atelier’s unparalleled commitment to translating celestial phenomena into mechanical art.
The Artistry Of The Astronomical Masterpieces Collection
The collection embodies a profound dedication to astronomical horology, showcasing timepieces that harmonise technical mastery with celestial elegance. Central to this distinguished collection is the Grand Planetarium Eccentric Manufacture, a centrepiece commemorating the atelier’s 50-year legacy. Crafted by three generations—Christiaan van der Klaauw, Daniël and Maria Reintjes, and Pim Koeslag—this watch features the world’s smallest mechanical planetarium, displaying real-time orbits of all eight planets. Another notable piece, the Real Moon Joure with its exceptional 3D moon phase mechanism is celebrated as the most accurate of its kind globally. Adding to the collection is the recently introduced CVDK Real Moon Tides, a timepiece that not only captures the moon's phase but also illustrates the ebb and flow of sea tides.
The CVDK Real Moon 1980 enriches the collection with its sophisticated complications, including a 3D moon phase at six o’clock, a declination of the sun at 12 o’clock, and a solar and lunar eclipse indicator at three o’clock. A date display at nine o’clock adds a touch of practicality to this celestial marvel. Limited editions within the collection pay homage to specific astronomical themes, such as the Planetarium Eise Eisinga, which celebrates the world’s oldest functioning planetarium. Collaborative creations further enhance the collection’s reputation, including the Midnight Planétarium, developed with Van Cleef & Arpels. This extraordinary timepiece animates the orbits of Mercury, Venus, and Earth using an exclusive CVDK module, bringing the celestial ballet to life with exceptional artistry. Adding to the collection’s appeal is the Planetarium Dunes of Mars, featuring a red aventurine glass dial inspired by the sandy, rugged terrain of the red planet. This unique design captures the mystique of Mars and celebrates its cosmic significance.
ABOUT THE MOVEMENT
Christiaan van der Klaauw's automatic calibre CVDK7382 is an astounding feat of mechanical excellence and unparalleled craftsmanship. It features the world's most accurate moon phase indication that will lose only one day in 11,00 years. Along with this powerful complication, calibre CVDK7382 also provides a robust power reserve of 96 hours through its twin barrels while running at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour. Equally mesmerising are CVDK7382's finishings. In addition to meticulous Geneva stripes and perlage, the movement carries a beautifully designed oscillating weight featuring hand-engraved planets and stars surrounding a 12-clawed Sun in the centre.
