About the Bremont Terra Nova Collection
Drawing inspiration from the early 20th-century military pocket watches, Bremont released their latest collection Terra Nova at Watches and Wonders 2024. This collection marks a significant milestone in the brand's evolution from their aeronautical legacy. The name "Terra Nova," translating to "new land," aptly encapsulates Bremont's ambitious stride into innovation while paying homage to their heritage. The collection's genesis lies in the brand's deep-rooted passion for engineering and adventure, elements that have defined their identity since inception.
Design & Construction
Rooted in a rich heritage of crafting timepieces for those who dare, Bremont have meticulously designed the Terra Nova to withstand the rigours of modern adventures. Constructed from robust 904L stainless steel, the Terra Nova's case is a contemporary interpretation of the classic cushion shape. This material, renowned for its superior corrosion resistance, ensures the watch's longevity even in the harshest conditions. The dial, featuring bold Super-LumiNova numerals, guarantees excellent legibility in low-light environments. Powered by automatic movements, each Terra Nova model offers accurate timekeeping. The quick-release bracelet, crafted from the same high-quality stainless steel as the case, ensures comfort and versatility.
Collection Breakdown
The collection offers a range of options to suit diverse preferences. The Terra Nova 38, the smallest in the lineup, is ideal for those seeking a compact yet robust timepiece and features a sleek 38mm case. Progressing in size at 40.5mm, the Terra Nova Date introduces a date function while maintaining the collection's core design elements. For added functionality, the Terra Nova 40.5 Turning Bezel features a bi-directional compass bezel and a power reserve indicator, making it a well-suited choice for outdoor enthusiasts. At the pinnacle of the collection is the Terra Nova 42.5 Chronograph, equipped with a chronograph function and a ceramic bezel for optimal performance.
ABOUT THE MOVEMENT
Many Bremont day-date watches across collections use the self-winding calibre BE-36AE, which is a modified version of the Swiss ETA 2836. Consequently, it beats at a rate of 4Hz, is composed of 25 jewels, and provides a power reserve of 38 hours. Interestingly, Bremont also use this movement to power a few time-and-date watches by dexterously removing the day of the week ring. This modification alters a few specifications for the movement, like jewels, while maintaining overall accuracy and precision. The movement is visible through the caseback of a few watches, flaunting its fine finishes, including perlage, blued screws and a custom rotor.
