CIGA Design Mechanical Watch Series U Blue Planet

The Series U collection is deeply rooted in the concept of exploration and discovery, taking cues from the wonders of the natural world, space, and the intricate relationship between time and our environment. The collection manifests this beauty of the universe through five exceptional timepieces: Blue Planet, Blue Planet Gilding Version, Black Hole, Ice Age, and Mount Everest Homage Edition. Impressively, Series U became home to the only GPHG award winner in the brand's roster in 2021 when Blue Planet received the Challenge Watch Prize for its brilliant design.

Inspiration And Vision

CIGA Design's founder, Zhang Jianmin, envisioned a collection that would not only tell time but also tell a story — one that resonates with the mysteries of the cosmos and the beauty of our planet. As a result, each Series U timepiece spotlights a different element of natural world through interesting details. The series evokes a sense of awe and curiosity, much like the feeling one gets when gazing at the night sky or contemplating the Earth's place in the universe.

Design Language

The collection houses round watches with unconventional dial designs bearing the elements of nature, space, and the Earth. The award-winning Blue Planet features a rotating 3D globe on the dial, symbolising the Earth and its constant rotation through time. This visually captivating design has evolved into bolder and more beautiful forms with Gilding Version and Ice Age watches. The CIGA Design Black Hole, which won the 2021 Design Award, is the world's first black hole conceptual watch designed in collaboration with acclaimed industrial designer Paul Cohen.

Released in 2023, the Central Tourbillon Mount Everest Homage Edition is CIGA Design's latest horological marvel that celebrates the 70th anniversary of an unparalleled feat — the first summit to the highest mountain in the world with an equally complex central tourbillon complication.
