Corum Watches - The Key To Perfect Time

Corum watches were founded in 1955 in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland by Gaston Ries and his nephew, Renee Bannwart. Right from their inception, Corum stood out for their innovative designs and original mechanisms. Though most of their designs were fairly unconventional, models such as Chinese Hat, the Coin, and Romulus created a storm and were well-received among most watch lovers almost instantly. This prompted them to always come back with something new and unique.  In 1956 the first Corum watches appeared on the market and the brand launched a veritable cascade of new ideas with great success. Even their competitors considered Corum to be one of the most creative watchmakers in the industry.

For instance, in 1957—Corum created the Golden Tube model, a timepiece where the whole movement was fitted inside a tube. Post the Golden Tube fame, Corum came forward with another classic, christened the Double Eagle Coin. This particular classic was worn by 5 US presidents—George Bush Sr., Ronald Reagan, Lyndon B. Johnson, Jimmy Carter, Richard Nixon, and Bill Clinton.  The futuristic personality of the brand was complemented by Rolls Royce in 1976 by officiating a unique partnership with Corum. This partnership churned out the timepiece called Diamond Weiss Gold. A rare timepiece, the Diamond Weiss featured Rolls Royce’s famed front grill. The collections under the Corum hangar are Golden Bridge, Admiral, Lab, Heritage, and Bubble.

The Artistic Legacy Of Corum’s Iconic Collections

Corum are renowned for their pioneering approach to watchmaking, consistently pushing boundaries to create collections that blend innovation with tradition. Each of their collections tells a distinct story, reflecting the brand’s commitment to craftsmanship and avant-garde design.

The Admiral Collection

Introduced in 1960, the Admiral collection epitomises Corum’s maritime heritage. Inspired by the spirit of yacht racing, these timepieces are a tribute to nautical adventure. The collection’s hallmark lies in its use of twelve nautical pennants as hour markers, an element that has become synonymous with the Admiral line. Over the decades, the collection has expanded to include a variety of models, each maintaining the original’s maritime ethos.

The Bubble Collection

Launched in 2000, the Bubble collection emerged as a bold statement in contemporary watchmaking. Inspired by a deep-sea dive watch from the 1960s, its standout feature is the oversized domed sapphire crystal that magnifies the dial and creates a distinct distortion effect. This innovative design set the Bubble apart, making it one of the most striking timepieces of its era. The collection remains a symbol of Corum’s audacious creativity and willingness to defy convention.

The Golden Bridge Collection

The Golden Bridge collection unveiled in 1980 revolutionised traditional watch construction by showcasing a baguette-shaped movement within a transparent sapphire crystal case. This linear movement, suspended in a bridge-like structure, exemplifies Corum’s mastery of merging horological innovation with architectural elegance. Over the years, the collection has evolved to include various iterations, yet it retains its focus on highlighting the movement as the central design element.

The Heritage Collection

Corum’s Heritage collection pays homage to their rich history, blending innovative design with timeless craftsmanship. A standout creation is the Heritage Coin watch, introduced in 1964, featuring a genuine gold coin as its dial. This iconic design became a cultural emblem, worn by influential figures such as U.S. presidents. The collection continues to evolve, reflecting both historical significance and modern sophistication.

The Lab Collection

Launched in 2019, the Lab collection embodies Corum’s avant-garde ethos. With limited-edition models, it explores the fusion of unconventional design and technical prowess. Each piece in this collection represents their commitment to experimentation, offering timepieces that push the boundaries of traditional watchmaking.
