FeatureBlockbuster Watches – The latest In Movies!

Five of cinema’s newest and most popular timepieces

May We Recommend

Watches spotted in movies are there to make a subtle statement by the brand or as a prized companion of the character; either way, movie watches can reach icon status for watch enthusiasts and movie buffs alike. A mere 10 seconds of screen time can do wonders for a watch’s popularity and value, especially on the wrist of an actor. Be it James Bond’s Submariner, Stevie Mc Queen’s TAG Monaco or Stallone’s collection of Panerais!

But things have changed since the 90s. Once a pure wardrobe decision, or personal choice of the actor, watches now seen in movies are dependent on contractual agreements. It definitely does involves a certain degree of product placement but there’s a difference in promoting a luxurious timepiece and a can of Pringles! Wristwatch placement is much more subtle and the intention has always been for the product to stand out, not blend in, but we don’t mind all that because either way we’re getting to see some fantastic timepieces in some of our favorite movies.

Don’t worry, we’re not going to go back to the archives this time, here are watches spotted on some of the latest movies and upcoming releases which you probably missed but definitely will notice next time:

Transporter Refuelled – 2015

Statham is gone, yes! Big blow for the loyalists of the franchise who are now used seeing the tough guy riding his prized Audi and thrashing enemies that came his way.  But a celebrated watch has made a comeback! We noticed the Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch on Ed Skrein, the new Frank Martin on the block, and you can see the watch in the trailer below (At 0:40):

James Bond: Spectre – 2015 (To Be Released)

Bond watches have ALWAYS made a statement. Ever since Sean Connery started the trend way back in Dr. No, the character has invariably been linked to wristwatches, which end up being the talk of the world. From Breitling and Hamilton, to Omega and Seiko, name the brand and he’s worn them all! This year though, Bond is sporting the new Seamaster Aqua Terra with the unconventional ‘Nato strap’ we believe will become a rage after the release of this film.

Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation – 2015

Almost every scene with Simon Pegg a.k.a Benjamin Dunn is remembered for his  ‘bromance’ with Ethan Hunt and if you’ve seen Rogue Nation, you might recall the scene where he times his special agent taking a plunge into Torus deep-water facility to recover a computer chip which helped him locate the bad guy. Benji timed his dive with the T-Touch Solar Expert, a watch which by the way is powerful in itself with touch-screen capabilities, an altimeter, chronograph, compass and alarm, all of this powered by the rays of the sun (or light).

Expendables 3 – 2014

New team, new mission, good old Sylvester Stallone and his all-time favourite companion, Panerai was spotted yet again in this flick, and not just on his wrist but on the entire team.  It’s no secret that Sly has always been loyal towards the Italian Panerai and his fondness for the brand extends to his movies as well, a reason why the brand is now very popular in Hollywood. Coming back to the film, his new squad is sporting the Submersible, a bold, strong and fantastic watch from Panerai.

Fast and the Furious 6 – 2013

A franchise that needs no introduction. Amidst all the edge of the seat action and amazing cars, we will forgive you for not noticing any watch. But don’t worry, we did that!  Ludacris a.k.a Tej Parker had a steel and gold Carl F. Bucherer on his wrist in Fast 6. If you remember the hilarious car auction scene, Ludacris asked the auctioneer to give him his watch – “I like that watch”, and when he puts it on, he shows it to Luke Hobbs (played by Dwayne Johnson), the watch might have been visible on the big screen for maybe 2 seconds but gave the watch, years of popularity.

And here’s a good shot of him and the watch in one of the scenes!
