An exquisitely refined and timeless allure is echoed in the Tank de Cartier collection of wrist watches. This collection has been inspired by the iconic ‘Tank’ watch, which beautifully showcases the structural harmony of its namesake. The first Tank wristwatch was crafted in 1917, being inspired by minimalist design: four lines, with two parallel shafts made from gold or platinum, a sapphire cabochon on top of the winding crown, and a leather strap. It encased a revolutionary square case which soon became a legend in the world of watch making. The elegant lines and shapes of the collection are focused primarily on coloured gemstones and are often represented in yellow or white gold.
Unique aesthetics and utter dedication to perfection is the reason behind the collection’s success. The Tank Solo presents a watch with no faults, having been reworked with a number of variations. This model holds a beaded crown, set on a stainless steel case, with a synthetic spinel blue cabochon. Its dial enchants the senses with its clear silvered opaline glow and is embedded with Roman numerals on the periphery. The hands of the luxury timepiece are made of blued steel, and are miniaturized swords. This watch is set with scratch proof sapphire crystal, and is customized with a steel bracelet to match the case.
The Tank Solo W5200013 tells the tale of a modern yet modest ladies watch that displays classic features and efficient functionality. It contains the Cartier Calibre 157 quartz movement. It is a small model with a stainless steel case that is dimensioned as 31mm x 24.4 mm. The time piece is 5.55 mm thick and boasts of a water resistance up to 30 meters/100 feet. This watch presents the hours-minutes and seconds indicator function.
The First World War succeeded in inspiring a whole line of watches when Louis Cartier, the founder of the iconic Cartier brand fashioned watches inspired by the Renault tanks introduced by the Americans on the Western Front. These intricately designed timepieces born from an unusual inspiration were eventually introduced by the brand as the Tank collection in 1917, before they were launched in the markets in 1919.
The Tank collection has cases available in both rectangle and square shapes similar to the proportions of the tough war-machine. The case is further accentuated with a cabochon crown and sword shaped hour and minute hands set in a classic dial with Roman numerals, exuding a vintage feel. The distinctively patterned bracelet is the highlight of this collection. It consists of rectangular links ingeniously integrated with vertical sidebars, which bring to mind the rugged construction of the tank’s tracks used during war.
Originally introduced as far back as World War I, today this coveted collection is crafted using cutting-edge technology to feature enhanced functions such as calendar and power reserve displays. They also offer a broad range of movements from the simple yet precise Quartz to the technologically complicated and unerringly accurate automatic.
The Tank collection finds its manifestation in 6 ranges: Francaise, Americaine, Anglaise, MC, Solo and Louis Cartier.
