Seiko Astron

Seiko Astron has been named after the Astron seires, launched by Seiko in 1969 as the first quartz watch. While Astron of that time created a landmark in the history of watchmaking, Seiko reached another milestone by launching the first GPS series by launching Seiko Astron. As the name suggest, it is a perfectly suitable watch for the frequent travelers who travels in various nations. The GPS signal receiving technology enables the watch to change the time automatically from satellites. You need to be under the open sky to make it operated. A push button near 2’o clock turns on the GPS signal receiver by pressing it for few seconds. A small window in the dial indicates number of satellites from which signals are getting received. It has to get signals from atleast 4 satellites, post that it can adjust time automatically. Astron movement is powered by solar energy. The dial needs to get exposed in sun-light or any other strong light source to get it charged. Other the GPS system, the watch can be set manually by moving the crown at 3’o clock. Different time zones are indicated at the bezel which helps it set the required time. The black dial with stick numerals and luminescent index hands gives a stunning look to the watch. Anti glaring scratch resistant sapphire crystal glass protect the dial from external shocks, while 100 meter water resistance ensures its usability in swimming or any other light water activity (not suitable for diving activity).

FUN FACT: THE SEIKO ASTRON released in 1969 was seikos first quartz watch and gave birth to possibly the first quartz watch .

TECHNOLOGY :whats interesting is this watch is NOT a radio frequency time update but a direct gps calibrated update for which it need a clear sky and sunlight to charge it .On a full charge ( integrated solar panels), it lasts roughly around 2 months.
