The M116400-72400_ BLK INDEX Milgauss has been developed specifically for use by scientists. This model has a black dial, which is protected by a unique green rimmed sapphire crystal. This sapphire crystal is scratch proof, thus it keeps the dial safe from external wear and tear. The hands of the watch are also remarkable, especially the second’s hand that is shaped in the form of an orange lightning bolt. Hour markers on the dial are in the shape of rectangles with the 3 o’clock, 6 o’clock and 9 o’clock markers in orange colour. The 12 o’clock position features a Rolex crown.
This timepiece features a case made of 904L steel and sports a smooth bezel for a subdued look. A 904L steel Oyster bracelet of the regular oyster flat, three piece links construction offers this model a sturdy and stylish appearance. An Oyster clasp with 5mm easy link extension keeps the watch secure at all times.
This Milgauss has a Chromalight display with a blue luminescent fill, which lasts up to 8 hours. It has a perpetual, self-winding and mechanical movement with a caliber of 3131. The M116400-72400_ BLK INDEX Milgauss is also a certified Swiss Chronograph, which is a designation given only to those watches that pass the extreme tests of temperature and place. Its oyster case technology provides a twin waterproof layer. This along with a screw down back cover and winding crown ensures that the timepiece remains waterproof to a depth of 100 metres.
M116400-72400_ BLK INDEX Milgauss is a pioneer in its own right as it is the first anti-magnetic watch ever developed. It has a unique magnetic shield made of unique paramagnetic components designed specifically by Rolex. These components shield the watch from magnetic components up to a 1,000 Gauss, providing scientists with an accurate watch to wear to work.
The Milgauss by Rolex was first launched in 1956 to meet the needs of the scientific society. It was designed as an antimagnetic watch, so that the electromagnetic fields did not alter the accuracy of the watch. It was specifically made for people working in medical facilities, research labs, and power plants as it could withstand up to 1000 gauss of magnetic fields. These watches are known to be worn by the scientists of the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN), Geneva. In fact CERN was among the first scientific institutions to certify that these timepieces could actually resist the magnetic fields. The Milgauss watch was reintroduced in 2007 with several innovative components added to it.
Featuring clean lines and a lightning bolt shaped seconds hand in orange; the Milgauss is easily recognizable. The 904L stainless steel- a highly corrosion-resistant, fine-grade metal is used to make the watchcases. The Oyster bracelet with its flat three-piece metal links helps you secure the instrument comfortably to your wrist.
Made of ferromagnetic alloys, the magnetic shield of the watch is inside the oyster case, zealously protecting the movement. A capital ‘B’ with an arrow (magnetic flux density symbol) is engraved on the shield. Several novel paramagnetic materials are used to make the timepieces, including the blue Paragrom hairspring- developed and made in-house by the brand. The Blue Parachrom hairspring is insensitive to magnetic fields and 10 times more resistant to shocks. A self-winding mechanical movement, Calibre 3131 powers the Rolex Milgauss.
