History & Collection
Rolex mixes elegant engineering with tradition. Headquartered in Switzerland since 1919, Rolex was established over a century ago in 1905. Even today it remains one of the most powerful brands in the global scenario. The Rolex M116233-63603_WHT MOP ROM watch for men is elegant and made with exquisite craftsmanship. It belongs to the Date Just range, one of the earliest watches that could show the date automatically.
The case material and strap are dual toned. The highly corrosion resistant 904L steel super alloy and 18 ct gold makes the watch durable and exquisitely beautiful. The 36mm dial has a mother of pearl sheen to it. Each mother of pearl dial in any Rolex watch is unique as it is never coloured artificially.
The luxurious sheen of the dial cover comes from the sapphire crystal glass material it is made of. Sapphire crystal is crystallized aluminium oxide that is superior to mineral glass or hardened quartz. This scratchproof glass is equipped with anti-reflective properties as well.
A Cyclops lens is affixed with the sapphire crystal dial cover on top of the date display. This lens is made of the same sapphire crystal material and magnifies the date two and a half times making it easier to read.
Rolex came up with the first waterproof wristwatches. The winding crown made up of about ten parts is screwed on top of a tube in an airtight manner ensuring water cannot seep into the insides of the watch. The oyster case construction makes this watch water resistant for depths of about 100 metres. It is crafted to last for generations.
Rolex intertwines form and function with utmost sophistication. This timepiece bears the legacy of innovation and precision that Rolex stands for. This chronometer does not require manual winding as it is equipped with automatic self-winding technology.
The Datejust collection was introduced by Rolex in the year 1945. This was the first wristwatch to display automatically changing date through an opening on the dial.
Featuring a classic design and iconic style, the Datejust features a date window located at the 3 o’clock position for your ease in viewing. The date aperture showcases the Cyclops lens on the top, the most distinctive feature of Rolex watches. This lens magnifies the date by approximately two and half times for clear legibility. The watches in this collection have an oyster case, which is clamped shut and extremely robust. The core of the oyster consists of a screw-down case and a signed screw-down crown with twinlock system. This system renders the watches water-resistant up to 100 metres, enabling you to wear them for poolside swimming and snorkelling. The Datejust watches come with two classic Rolex bracelets, either the Jubilee or the Oyster. The Jubilee is a five-piece metal link bracelet with a concealed Crownclasp fitted at the end, and the Oyster is a broad three-piece metal link bracelet, which is quite popular because of its classic appeal. These watches have a standard 36 mm case, and are equipped with a self-winding mechanical movement manufactured by Rolex, the calibre 3135.
A Datejust was presented to an eminent gentleman by Hans Wilsdorf in 1947, on the 100,000th officially certified chronometer celebrated by the brand. The identity of this gentleman has not been revealed till this day. Christian Bale was seen wearing the Rolex Datejust 16013, in the movie American Pyscho. A Datejust has also been worn by Paul Newman in the movie The Color of Money, Bill Murray in the film Lost in Translation, and by various male characters in The Informers.
