The white dial is in a stainless steel case. It has been engraved with silver index markers and hour hands that have been polished with a luminescent marker. The three link bracelet has been crafted with stainless steel and the dial has been crafted with a scratch resistant sapphire crystal. The time keeper has a case size diameter of 40 mm.
The unidirectional rotating stainless steel bezel has been etched with a tachymeter scale that helps in average speed measurement. The dial has a 30 minutes sub- dial at 3 o’ clock, a small seconds sub- dial at 6 o’ clock and a 12 hour display counter at 9 o’ clock. The time piece is water resistant to 100 m and it has a perpetual, mechanical, self-winding movement. It has a screw down crown with a triplock triple locking system that ensures the watch is water resistant.
In 1963, Rolex launched a new-generation chronograph. It was called the Cosmograph and was dedicated to racing drivers. The series was immediately recognised as an unconventional model with prominent style and detail. The chronograph counters for these watches were of highly contrasting colour, black against a light coloured dial or vice versa. This made the chronograph stand out clearly, so that the drivers could make out the time at a single glance. The initial models of the series featured a tachymetric scale, responsible for the measurement of average speeds over a given distance using the chronograph seconds hand. The dials were simplified because the chronograph was moved to the bezel. This made the range appear technical and sporty.
The Cosmograph Daytona is not just a timepiece. It pays homage to the passion for speed, which propels racers. The Sand Beach in Daytona, Florida became famous worldwide as the perfect place to beat speed records during 1903-1905. It has been a site where several official records were set. This led to Daytona being the world capital of speed.
The Cosmograph Daytona range has a dial, which carries the name “Daytona” in red letters. It is indeed an iconic watch, available in 904L steel. This steel is a super alloy used in high technology, aerospace and chemical industries because of properties like corrosion resistivity even in the harshest of environments. This Cosmograph Daytona boasts of a glorious heritage because the aesthetics of the later models deliberately remained true to the codes of the 1988 as it was during this time that the Daytona became self-winding. The newer designs were crafted in a method that they still exuded their old charm but modern features like perfect ergonomics also began to find to find their way. A masterpiece when it comes to blending engineering and micro mechanics, these watches feature a self-winding chronograph movement called calibre 4130, which is manufactured in-house by Rolex in its entirety.
The Watches from this series are used as trophies for every winner of Le Mans and the Rolex 24 Daytona races.
