Raymond Weil was established in 1976. The current CEO of the company is Elie Bernheim, Mr. Weil’s grandson. Even though the company has changed three hands, it has maintained the core values inculcated by its founder. Reliability, precision, quality, and uniqueness happen to be some of the selling points of the company. Another thing, which has remained unchanged through the generations, has been the brand’s love for music. A lot of Raymond Weil collections are centred on music like Tango, Toccata, and Maestro etc. The company also sponsors music event, and launches limited editions for them, and has sponsored the Brit Music Awards 2015. Some of the signed limited edition watches are put up by the company for auction, to help charities that it supports. A charity, which has received constant support from the company, is the VH1 Save the Music Foundation.
The Tango 5591-ST-00607 is an extremely bold and masculine piece. The stainless steel rim is adorned with six screws, a signature of the Tango collection. Its dimensions are 39 mm diameter, and 7.9 mm thickness. It rests on a weave finish, stainless steel bracelet, which clasps at the back through a deployable folding double security.
The watch has a textured black dial, with silver Roman numeric, to mark out the hours. Minutes are marked on an inner circle. It is finished with the signature RW push/ pull crown.
The Tango 5591-ST-00607 has a quartz movement of 2.5 mm in height. It has sapphire crystal treatment on both sides, making it strong, anti-reflective, and anti-scratches. It performs the hour, minute, second, and date functions. The date is displayed at the 3 o’clock position. It is also water resistant up to 100 m.
Erol Ozan once said, “dancing is creating a sculpture that is visible only for a moment.” Raymond Weil adds a new dimension to this concept by crafting sculptures that are passionate, sensual, glamorous, and last for a lifetime. The Tango collection draws inspiration from the rawest dance form of all, Tango. Watches from this line give men and women a chance to observe a Tango between the two attributes Raymond Weil is renowned for- artistry and technique. Launched in 1995, the collection continues to mesmerize and dazzle even almost twenty years later.
The distinguishing characteristic of timepieces from the Tango collection lies in the six exposed screws embedded on the bezel, adding a raw element to the line. The round and rectangular shaped cases are made from stainless steel for ethereal glamour, and may be coated with yellow or rose gold PVD. Certain watches from the women’s version come inlaid with gems on the bezel in addition to the screws, to depict the glamour and lustre that comes hand in hand with being the female partner of the Tango. Watches from the Tango are available with dials in varying shades of white, black, and blue, with a centre having intricate workings that display Raymond Weil’s immaculate crafting skills. The time intervals are marked with Roman numerals, indexes, and gems.
The quartz movement of the Swiss made watches from the Tango collection ensures accurate timekeeping for the connoisseur. With single or dual date windows, certain chronograph editions of the men’s watches come with three subdials for seconds, 30-minute, and 12-hour intervals. The dial is protected by sapphire glass crystal with anti-reflective coating on both sides. The stainless steel bracelets are available in two toned or pure options with double push folding clasps, while some watches have calf leather motif straps with traditional buckles.
