Raymond Weil launched his company in 1976. From the early ages, he had an uncanny passion for watches, stopping to admire them at shop windows. Another passion of his was music, which he considered to be a harbinger of unity amongst people. He fused both his passions to bring about the unique nature of the brand. The company has repeatedly launched collections, which are musically inspired. It has also launched limited edition pieces in honour of artists, or to commemorate landmark years. The Frank Sinatra collection, for instance, has been launched in order to mark the centenary year of the famous artist. Similarly limited editions have been launched for charity and award shows as well.
The Tango 4899-ST-00668 is a complex and virile piece for men. It has a stainless steel case, with a diameter of 40 mm, and thickness of 9.5 mm. It has a black dial, with silver Roman numerals marking the hours, and three white sub dials at 3, 6, and 9 o’ clock psoitions. Minutes are marked by silver indices on an outer circle. The case has screws adorning the rim, a signature of the collection.
This watch rests on a stainless steel bracelet, which clasps through a double folding and double security system. It has a bold lacquered RW crown. The piece is extremely masculine and classy.
The Tango 4899-ST-00668 has Swiss Quartz movement. It is treated with sapphire crystal, making it sturdy, and providing immunity from scratches and reducing glare. It performs the hour, minute, seconds, and date function. The window for the date is at 12 o’ clock. Along with this, it performs the 60 seconds, 60 minutes, and 1/10th of a second functions, through the sub dials. It is water resistant to a depth of 50 m.
Erol Ozan once said, “dancing is creating a sculpture that is visible only for a moment.” Raymond Weil adds a new dimension to this concept by crafting sculptures that are passionate, sensual, glamorous, and last for a lifetime. The Tango collection draws inspiration from the rawest dance form of all, Tango. Watches from this line give men and women a chance to observe a Tango between the two attributes Raymond Weil is renowned for- artistry and technique. Launched in 1995, the collection continues to mesmerize and dazzle even almost twenty years later.
The distinguishing characteristic of timepieces from the Tango collection lies in the six exposed screws embedded on the bezel, adding a raw element to the line. The round and rectangular shaped cases are made from stainless steel for ethereal glamour, and may be coated with yellow or rose gold PVD. Certain watches from the women’s version come inlaid with gems on the bezel in addition to the screws, to depict the glamour and lustre that comes hand in hand with being the female partner of the Tango. Watches from the Tango are available with dials in varying shades of white, black, and blue, with a centre having intricate workings that display Raymond Weil’s immaculate crafting skills. The time intervals are marked with Roman numerals, indexes, and gems.
The quartz movement of the Swiss made watches from the Tango collection ensures accurate timekeeping for the connoisseur. With single or dual date windows, certain chronograph editions of the men’s watches come with three subdials for seconds, 30-minute, and 12-hour intervals. The dial is protected by sapphire glass crystal with anti-reflective coating on both sides. The stainless steel bracelets are available in two toned or pure options with double push folding clasps, while some watches have calf leather motif straps with traditional buckles.
