Launched for the very first time in the year 1957, the Omega Speedmaster has since evolved even further. Today, the Omega Speedmaster ’57, a modern version of the Speedmaster, incorporates the best in contemporary technology and design without letting go its old world charm.
The Omega Speedmaster ’57 3126.96.36.199.02.002 for men has a round, silver dial with white and gold indexes and stick style hands. The seconds sub-dial dial is placed on the 9 o’clock position and the 12 hour and 60 minute sub-dial is placed at the 3 o’clock position. A date window showcases the date and is positioned at 6 o’clock. Scratch resistant and anti-reflective Sapphire crystal protects the dial from external wear and tear.
A stainless steel case, 41.50 mm in diameter has a winding screw attached to it on the side. A brushed stainless steel bezel is mounted on the case and sports a tachymeter, intricately engraved on its surface. As the caseback of this exclusive devise is made of sapphire crystal, it is transparent and showcases its inner mechanisms.
The stainless steel, three pieces links bracelet matches the case and the dial while providing great comfort when fastened on the wrist.
With an Omega caliber of 9300 the automatic movement and the Co-Axial Escapement of the Chronograph ensures that it reads time with military precision for a long time. It also features a classic column wheel mechanism, so that its stopwatch functions are controlled by an easy to manoeuvre ratchet wheel. This timepiece has a Rhodium plated finish with Geneva waves in Arabesque.
It also features a free sprung balance and two barrels mounted in series for smooth working and bi-directional automatic winding. This watch has a power reserve of 60 hours.
The Omega Speedmaster ’57 3188.8.131.52.02.002 is water-resistant to a depth of 100 metres.
Omega launched its range of Chronograph watches in the year 1957, under the Speedmaster collection. Originally, the watches in this collection were designed as a sports and racing chronograph, and not for space exploration. It was then selected by NASA in 1965 for all manned space flights.
This remarkable collection of Chronograph watches has been exemplified in several series. Featuring a timeless design, the rugged and reliable Moonwatch Chronograph, is a classic chronograph. The Speedmaster professional was the first watch to be worn on the moon and on all NASA’s manned missions since then. The Dark Side of the Moon collection is a tribute to the astronauts of the Apollo 8 who were the first to see the dark side of the moon. With a metallic grey bezel built from white ceramic, the Grey Side of the Moon has been inspired by the lunar dust, which has preserved all the steps of mankind on the moon. An updated form of the classic Mark II was launched in 2014, which features an illuminated tachymeter. Honouring the decades-long connection of the chronographs with motor racing, the Racing was launched. To commemorate the historic occasion of the first lunar landing, the Apollo 11 45th Anniversary was launched, with its case crafted from grade 2 titanium. Other compelling series from the Speedmaster Collection include the Speedmaster 57, HB-SIA, Skywalker X-33 and Spacemaster Z-33.
The first watch on the moon was the “Omega Speedmaster Professional Chronograph”, worn by astronaut Buzz Aldrin. The producer, director, writer, and Hollywood actor, Tom Hanks and the adventurer, explorer, and mountaineer, Reinhold Messner, have been seen wearing an Omega Seamaster Professional.
