Manufactured as a special dedication to Anna and Charles Lindbergh, the Longines Lindbergh's Atlantic Voyage L2.722.214.171.124 is definitely an eye catcher. The timekeeper is dedicated to Charles for the success of his solo flight across the north Atlantic in 1927 and then with his wife Anna Morrow Lindbergh in 1933.
The Longines Lindbergh's Atlantic Voyage L2.7126.96.36.199 for men, features a round, egg shell coloured dial. With Breguet style hands in navy blue and Arabic numerals in black the timepiece, perfectly complements the off-white hue of the dial. An enamel, tachymeter scale in white is also featured on the outer diameter of the watch with indexes and markers painted in black. A seconds hand sub-dial is positioned at 9 o’clock and a 30-minute recorder is positioned at 3 o’clock. The case window is made of scratch-resistant and antireflective Sapphire crystal that provides a clear view of the clock face.
A 47.5 mm, polished stainless steel case has a winding screw attached to it at the side. The screw is flanked by the stop and start stopwatch push buttons. A brown extension leather strap suitable to be worn over flight suit is attached to the timepiece.
With a Longines caliber of L705 and an automatic, self-winding movement the chronograph does not require regular winding. With a power reserve of 46 hours this timepiece is also water resistant to a depth of 30 metres. It beats at 28,800 vibrations per hour.
This exclusive timepiece sports a hinge flip open case, which when flipped open reveals a transparent caseback. Interestingly the inside of the caseback is engraved as – ‘Designed for Mrs & Mr Chs. A. Lindbergh's Flight in 1933’.
There was a time when Longines timekeepers were not just artisans excelling in their field. They were explorers and adventurers, who not only designed watches but tested them during memorable flights and underwater adventures. The timepieces from the Heritage Collection celebrate their uninhibited spirits, responsible for creating history in the field of horology. Even today Longines continues to be rooted in its essence of originality by manufacturing stunningly designed timepieces. The company is recognised for introducing technologies, which have changed the face of the watchmaking industry and the Heritage collection is a tribute to such designers.
The watches from this collection are equipped mostly with round cases crafted from stainless-steel or pink gold. The dials are protected with AR sapphire crystal, making them scratch resistant and enhancing their sunlight legibility. Select models feature a transparent caseback allowing a glimpse into the intricate mechanism of the watch.
The collection is a tribute to mavericks and daredevils whose significant contributions to horology led to complex functionalities, enhanced reliability and durability. It is a matter of course that watches from this collection boast an assorted range of features in its models- so connoisseurs who want a blend of form and function can choose a watch with utilities specific to their needs. Certain timepieces have luminous hour markers for legibility in the darkness. Others feature a chronograh function to measure elapsed time. A date window in select models, gives a holistic view of time. A precise Swiss automatic movement renders the watches in the collection singularly reliable.
Charles Lindbergh was the first man to fly across the Atlantic Ocean. The flagship model of the heritage collection is the remake of The Charles Lindbergh model. To enable the timepiece to withstand the challenging conditions of the flight, the pilot himself conceived the original model. The remake of this watch is an extraordinary feat. It involves a unique design and elaborate detailing. The most interesting attribute of the watch is its “hour angle feature”. This trait allows the wearer in determining his current position. As the earth makes a complete rotation of 360 degree on its axis in 24 hours, one hour represents a change of 15 degree. So if the angle on the watch measured 30 degree, for example, it would mean that he is two hours off the GMT.
