Omega was established in 1848 by Louis Brandt. Etymologically the word Omega is the last Greek alphabet and means ‘great’. Thus Omega stands for accomplishment and perfection. The Omega Speedmaster Collection was first launched in 1957 and since then has become really popular.
The Omega Speedmaster 3220.127.116.11.03.001 sports a blue, round dial with polished beveled edges. Its PVD main dial has two recessed sub-dials and applied silver toned index hour markers with a luminescent fill. The minute and hour counters are combined into a single sub-dial located at the 3 o’clock position. A small continuous running seconds hand sub-dial is located at 9 o’clock. The date window is displayed at the 6 o’clock position. Protecting the dial is a slightly domed anti-reflective, scratch-resistant sapphire crystal. Its case back is made of the same material and provides a clear view of the internal mechanism of the watch. The stainless steel bracelet is brushed and polished with a push button fold over clasp. This watch also sports two screw down crowns and one rotating crown. It has a fixed bezel mounted upon a satin finished stainless steel 41.5mm case.
The Omega calibre 9300 beats at 28,800 vibrations per hour. It contains 54 jewels and has an approximate power reserve of 60 hours. The movement features Omega's "Si 14" silicon balance spring, which contributes to the movements outstanding resistance to shock and to environmental disturbances. It also features the now-standard Co-Axial Escapement which contributes to greater precision, stability & durability. The Co-Axial escapement has less friction & reduces the necessity of lubrication thus increasing the durability of the timepiece. The combination of the Si 14 balance spring & the Co-Axial escapement makes for an extremely reliable & stable movement.
Omega launched its range of Chronograph watches in the year 1957, under the Speedmaster collection. Originally, the watches in this collection were designed as a sports and racing chronograph, and not for space exploration. It was then selected by NASA in 1965 for all manned space flights.
This remarkable collection of Chronograph watches has been exemplified in several series. Featuring a timeless design, the rugged and reliable Moonwatch Chronograph, is a classic chronograph. The Speedmaster professional was the first watch to be worn on the moon and on all NASA’s manned missions since then. The Dark Side of the Moon collection is a tribute to the astronauts of the Apollo 8 who were the first to see the dark side of the moon. With a metallic grey bezel built from white ceramic, the Grey Side of the Moon has been inspired by the lunar dust, which has preserved all the steps of mankind on the moon. An updated form of the classic Mark II was launched in 2014, which features an illuminated tachymeter. Honouring the decades-long connection of the chronographs with motor racing, the Racing was launched. To commemorate the historic occasion of the first lunar landing, the Apollo 11 45th Anniversary was launched, with its case crafted from grade 2 titanium. Other compelling series from the Speedmaster Collection include the Speedmaster 57, HB-SIA, Skywalker X-33 and Spacemaster Z-33.
The first watch on the moon was the “Omega Speedmaster Professional Chronograph”, worn by astronaut Buzz Aldrin. The producer, director, writer, and Hollywood actor, Tom Hanks and the adventurer, explorer, and mountaineer, Reinhold Messner, have been seen wearing an Omega Seamaster Professional.

Omega Speedmaster 57 with Co-axial chronograph reflects the reincarnation of the first Speedmaster launched in 1957. The first design was invented with a new type of chronograph that was useful for sports and research. The legacy continues, as almost after half a century, the machine is being upgraded to Co-Axial calibres 9300/9301 to incorporate chronograph function that offers more precision and better functionality. Looking at the aesthetics as well as functionality you would observe that majority of Speedmaster models are designed with 3 sub-dials, however this watch’s eminent design is reflected from the 2 sub-dials compiling 12 hour and 30 min counter in one dial at 3’oclock and seconds sub counter at 9. The advanced caliber is visible through the transparent case back. The watch is available in 15 different designs including, steel on steel, gold case and leather strap options etc. Omega also offers 4 years international warranty and the service as well as the best price policy of Ethos makes it even more compelling to have this seamless beauty in your watch collection
