Half a century ago, Omega launched the iconic Speedmaster collection, which set the watch world abuzz with its unparalleled blend of pioneering technology and stunning aesthetics.
Like fine wine, this timepiece has not only bettered with age, but also 50 years of refinement has also helped it gain more admiration and value in the eyes of connoisseurs.
The Omega Speedmaster Broad Arrow 318.104.22.168.01.001 sports a round, black dial, with three sub-dials- a second’s dial beside the 9 o’clock position, 30-minute dial beside the 3 o’clock position and a 12 o’clock dial beside the 6 o’clock position. The timepiece gets its name because of the “Broad Arrow” that its hour hand features. Its case window is made of scratch-resistant and ant-reflective sapphire crystal, which also protects the dial. A date display is position at 6 o’clock and helps in keeping track of your myriad commitments.
A 42 mm, stainless steel case encompasses the mechanics of the timepiece. The stainless steel bezel features a tachymetric scale, which really comes in handy while travelling. A winding screw and the stopwatch regulators are attached to the side of the case. This timepiece sports a brown leather strap with a matte finish that has been tested for comfort and quality. The transparent case back is made of Sapphire crystal and showcases the intricate watch mechanism.
With an Omega Caliber of 3313 and automatic, self-winding movement the timepiece does not require regular winding. The timekeeper features a special column wheel mechanism that makes use of a ratchet wheel that controls its stopwatch functions. For greater durability and military precision in time telling the Co-Axial Escapement function does wonders. A free sprung balance allows smooth running of the devise without it being damaged by external shocks and pressure changes.
The Omega Speedmaster Broad Arrow 322.214.171.124.01.001 with a power reserve of 52 hours along with water-resistance to a depth of 100 meters is ideally made for the convenience and comfort of men.
This iconic timepiece has quite amazingly been a part of all six lunar missions and is known for its excellent quality and stylish design. The speedmaster has all the features to resist the intense pressure and temperature changes in space. It is known to have been in space, on board the Apollo 11 and many other lunar missions thereafter.
Omega launched its range of Chronograph watches in the year 1957, under the Speedmaster collection. Originally, the watches in this collection were designed as a sports and racing chronograph, and not for space exploration. It was then selected by NASA in 1965 for all manned space flights.
This remarkable collection of Chronograph watches has been exemplified in several series. Featuring a timeless design, the rugged and reliable Moonwatch Chronograph, is a classic chronograph. The Speedmaster professional was the first watch to be worn on the moon and on all NASA’s manned missions since then. The Dark Side of the Moon collection is a tribute to the astronauts of the Apollo 8 who were the first to see the dark side of the moon. With a metallic grey bezel built from white ceramic, the Grey Side of the Moon has been inspired by the lunar dust, which has preserved all the steps of mankind on the moon. An updated form of the classic Mark II was launched in 2014, which features an illuminated tachymeter. Honouring the decades-long connection of the chronographs with motor racing, the Racing was launched. To commemorate the historic occasion of the first lunar landing, the Apollo 11 45th Anniversary was launched, with its case crafted from grade 2 titanium. Other compelling series from the Speedmaster Collection include the Speedmaster 57, HB-SIA, Skywalker X-33 and Spacemaster Z-33.
The first watch on the moon was the “Omega Speedmaster Professional Chronograph”, worn by astronaut Buzz Aldrin. The producer, director, writer, and Hollywood actor, Tom Hanks and the adventurer, explorer, and mountaineer, Reinhold Messner, have been seen wearing an Omega Seamaster Professional.
