The Constellation collection of watches was introduced by OMEGA in 1982, to provide women with watches that were aesthetically appealing and functional at the same time. In order to meet the demands of changing times, the range was given a whole new look and feel in 2009. Nevertheless, the latest line of watches under this collection still sport the original elements of its iconic ancestors.
Sporting elegant feminine lines and styling, the 22.214.171.124.55.001 model by OMEGA is a true- blue Constellation watch. It features a striking dial design, with the signature and enduring claws or “Griffes,” prominently and easily identifiable on this timepiece. The familiar Constellation star can also be found on the dial of this watch. Besides these trademarks that make up a Constellation timepiece, the model also features other equally attractive design elements. For instance, the surface of this white mother of pearl dial sports diamond encrusted indexes that function not only to permanently mark out time, but also to lend the timepiece with an ethereal feel.
Further enhancing its style quotient is the model’s finely polished and smooth-flowing dauphine hands. To protect the content of the case, lens made of scratch-resistant sapphire crystal feature as part of the design component too. Additionally, in order to augment its elegant feel and appearance, the model’s 27mm stainless steel case comes mounted with a highly brushed, thick and solid bezel with Roman numeral markings for greater functionality. This eye-catching bezel design, along with the stylish strap element, goes a long way in contributing to its wow factor and durability.
Finished with a rhodium coating, the mechanism that this timeless Constellation timepiece comes built with is the OMEGA 1376 calibre. The accurate quartz movement of this model offers about 48 months of power reserve. It possesses a water-resistance capacity of about 100m, and does not fail to function normally even when placed under running water.
The Constellation Collection by Omega was launched in 1952, has since been renowned for its ultra precise movements and elegantly refined cases. Century, a limited edition wristwatch unveiled in 1948 on the firm’s 100th anniversary, is the progenitor of the collection. Due to the overwhelming response received by this watch, the brand launched the Constellation collection, which imbibed the same qualities. In 1982, the Constellation “Manhattan” was launched, with which the four claws or “griffes” were introduced that keeps the sapphire crystal case intact to securely render the watch waterproof.
The Omega Constellation collection has been exemplified in several sub collections that include the Gents’ Collection, Ladies’ Collection, Orbis Constellation Star, Sedna, and the Luxury Edition. The watches in the Gents’ collection feature distinctive design factors – the renowned claws on the case, horizontal links for utmost comfort, and a Constellation star, which is situated at the 6o’ clock position. Featuring a vast range of watches with different sizes, metals, dials, and diamond options to choose from, the Ladies’ Collection contains at least one watch to suit every wrist. The Orbis Constellation Star supports Orbis International – which gives advanced eye care to some of the most inaccessible regions in the world, and it’s Flying Eye Hospital. An 18-carat rose gold alloy, consisting of copper, palladium, and at least 75% gold, has been used to craft the Constellation Sedna. This breathtaking alloy adds an innovative and stunning appeal to the watch, giving it a long lasting rose-coloured hue. The magnificent Omega Constellation Luxury Edition watches showcase multitude of diamonds in spectacular supernova pattern, which dazzles the eyes of the onlooker.
A gold Omega Constellation “Manhattan” was worn by the former president of the Soviet Union, Mikhail Gorbachev. One of the 20th century’s most popular musicians, cultural icon, actor, and American singer, Elvis Presley had worn a black-dialled Constellation Calendar.
