A renowned name in the watch making industry, Louis Erard designs each watch with a personal touch, a surreal feeling, which has to be experienced. The company laid its first stone in 1931, a collaborative effort of Louis Erard and Andre Perret in Switzerland. The company was later bought by a private firm, lead by Alain Spinedi, in 2003. With the motto of providing only watches of superlative quality, the company has always attributed their creations to the concept of Haute Horlogerie. The essence of the concept was to consider each timepiece they create with utmost care like a creature with life in it. Louis Erard offers five different collections of watches at present. They are Heritage, 1931, Emotion, Romance and Excellence. Out of them, the Excellence collection as the name suggests, is the zenith of perfection combined with style.
A crisp collection of interesting features, the 50232AA01.BDC29 model of the Excellence collection is a completely tempting watch no one can resist. The watch has a white circular dial with a fixed bezel. The timepiece is provided with a case of size of 40mm diameter. The sublime dial has its outer rim etched with markers in black. The hour and minute hands are splashed with a tinge of blue to provide a dashing look to the watch. The watch is completely guarded by a sapphire glass case for protecting it from scratches. It is also designed with two sub counters, the one at 12’oclock for displaying the hour, and the counter at 6’oclock to display seconds. It is provided with a black croco imitation leather strap, with a steel folding clasp. The caseback is provided with a novel and a beautiful engraving.
Powered by an automatic movement, this watch ensures a precise time reading every time. A water resistant capacity of 50m enables you to wear the watch without worrying about damage from accidental spills and splashes.
A watchmaker from the 1930s, Louis Erard’s ethos for luxury timepiece creation revolves around blending tradition with contemporary design. Till date, all Louis Erard watches are made in Switzerland and every single one of their watches is mechanical with the movements built in-house. At Baselworld 2011 Louis Erard marked their 80th anniversary by announcing their classically styled line of watches, the Excellence Collection. With this edition, Louis Erard have tried to give the wearer a sense of tradition and ocassion as it marks 80 years of stellar and precise watch- making by the Swiss company.
Taking inspiration from the Neo-Classical period, The Excellence collection is marked by elements such as a round case, subtle dials, hour markers and Roman numerals. The models in this collection offer functions such as the Power-Reserve display and Regulator or simple Power-Reserve variations, stopwatch with moonphase mechanism and 24-hour indicator, and time-only iterations.
The movement of this collection is based on the unfailing ETA Peseux 7001 hand-wound movement. It has an extra module that was created by Louis Erard and the Swiss watch part specialist Soprod S.A.
One of the remarkable pieces in this collection is the fashionable Excellence Collection Regulateur Reserve de Marche. With a unique dial layout, this model is a regulator watch meaning the hour and minute hands turn around different axes with the hour hand having its own sub-dial at 12 o’clock. It is powered by an ETA 7001 RE9 hand-wound caliber. Being 40 mm in diameter, it looks sleek and sophisticated, making for a perfect fit for formal ensemble.

There is something about reading time in an unorthodox fashion. All watches tell the time but this Louis Erard exquisite timepiece personifies just that.
The minute markers make up the edge of the dial while the hours and seconds are displayed independently by the sub-dials at the 12 o'clock and 6 o'clock positions. Read them together and you have the perfect time powered by an mechanical movement.
Its unique design, subtle colours and leather strap enables the wearer to use the watch on all occasions; formal or otherwise.
I'm sure all watch enthusiasts will love to get their hands on such a wonderful piece.
